what has ruined more dogs?
Oh,,, that is an easy one!!!!

#1 Listening to someone elses opinion!!!!
#2 Listening to what your hunting buddy thinks!!!!
#3 Listening to other people in the cast!!!!

Oh, I think I see a patteren here!!!

How many has said or heard ?? I wish I would have kept that one and not listened to so and so!!! If you are not trying to please yourself then you are going backwards. It has took forty years to learn this much any more would break my brain. I do beleive that lack of PATIENCE has been the cause of a lot of hounds being culled or neglected and that often goes back to so and so don't think that dog will ever make it.
There are a lot of good answers here!!! I need to improve on most of them!!!!
We ran five dog last Saturday jumped sevin rabbits and that one patch hound jumped five of them maybe I should cull him , he is taken away the chances for the others to get a jump.

Honey Pot got it VERY right. I have brought home 4-5 month old hounds that had never been handled with human hands and put my 5-year old daughter and 9-year old son to work and made different dogs from them. The last litter I raised had doll clothes on them, got rides in a wagon pulled by a Power Wheels dune buggy, got carried upside down the length of the yard, broke to lead by being chased through the grass dragging a lead behind them, etc. You can not have a female squirt pups out and feed her/them without handling them and expect much of anything from them but fear.

amen, what i think ruins good dogs is running them with mouthy, trash runnin culls,i went rabbit hunting a few months ago and this guys dogs did not shut up for two seconds and he thought they where actually running, then when they where on a hot track it was a deer, three times they ran deer in two hours, needless to say,i have never ran with him again.

and what really sucks is these guys that bring these dogs to hunts,

i am goin to shut up now before i get started.

from my past experience, a hound is as good as what the master puts into it. if u lay them up, don't work with them, teach them to handle, solo them, pack them, ect what do u expect. another words if you run them once a month, then you can't expect much. Don't get me wrong the blood has to be there and the brains, but you can take the finest bred hound out there and ruin it by doing the things i spoke of. thats just mt 2 cents.

* I enjoy meeting new Beaglers & Squirrel Dog Owners. It's a blessing to find other's with such unique interests.
* I also enjoy helping future hunters.

Could add poor general care, not keeping a dog immunized and on heartworm med. Have seen a few ruined by that.
