Elmer Gray talked about selling rabbits when he was a boy to buy more shotgun shell to hunt with. Finances do not require that today but if they did, I can't see the harm. If someone wanted a meal and you enjoyed bring it to them, it serves you both well.
Fullcry, your right, even nature still has to cull and as the conditions promote population increases to a point, so comes the number of weak ones that when time catches up with them, they must go also. The cycle is never ending, but is necessary to keep the breed strong...Patch
ps. never had opossum, but my G-aunt was always after me to bring her a young coon...lol...Patch
Lots of Rabbits

Good times
I would love to hunt in an area that would hold the amount of swampers that it would take to kill 60 or 70 a day. DON'T jump to conclusions. I would not want to kill that many but you would sure be in the rabbits. I've eatin coon, opossum, blackbirds, robins and the list goes on. Was out at the barn a few years back letting the calves suck old Jerz. I was standing in the barn door admiring the sunrise on this beautiful morning when out of the corner of my eye i saw movement. It was a opossum. Now something had been getting into my feed so i put two and two together and i decided that was the culprit. He went right past me and headed for the big sliding door and decided it was two tight to enter so headed back my way so when he came by my way i stomped him and then he decided he would fit in the door. Then it hit me. He's been eating my 16% dairy feed so he should be ripe and ready, so after him i went. I picked me up a piece of colonial door casing and went in the barn right behind him and found him curled up in the corner. I smacked him and he played opossum but he couldn't play anymore when i stomped his head. I skinned him and marinated him in some of my secret spices and baked him the next day.Called my son in the kitchen and we chowed down. We had some left over and took it to work the next day and shared it with everyone. They loved it.
I've even went to town and i notice what is dead on the road going and when you see something fresh on the way home you pick it up and skin em out and dinner is on. You just need to keep your mouth shut when the guest arrive.

Starvation ??
Kinda make you wonder how so many people could be starving here in America with all the FOOD just lying around waiting for someone to pick it up and try their culinary skills. Maybe that's what Hank Williams Jr. meant in his " Country Boy Can Survive ". I've thought about writing a book dealing with just that issue. "Eating Cheap in America" It would cover everything from visiting the neighbors garden after dark to shopping at Wal-Mart during dinner to picking up GOOD fresh roadkill. In Illinois there are cornfields that even after being picked have much left in the field. How many of you know what lambs quarters is?? Wild weeds that you boil like polk salad. There ya go !! Polk greens. Boil it then fry it in some bacon grease with bacon chips and then throw an egg in with it. You could substitute opossum grease you know. Sometimes i think people are just LAZY. If i have to i'll pick fly s*#t out of pepper if i really need a job.
