building above ground kennels

what is the proper size should i have wood in the front of the boxes and up by the door i'm new to these so any ideas hep.

Mine are 4'X8' with cedar slats and floor for the box with 1/2"X 1" wire for the run. I also used a 2"X2" runner 2" off the floor of the box so they can double as a brooder.
