Joeyman,

Did you use a band on that pup. I have docked pitbull tails when they are three days old with stainless surgical scisors. How old is that pup?

That pup is 4 wks old in that pic. I docked it when she was 3 days old. I used something very sharp. It only took a second cause it fell off as soon as I placed it on it's tail.

Sorry to keep asking questions but i just got to order the Amoxicillan from Revival should be gettting it by the end of the week.

How much do you give the dog each day?? And for how long and when in the process?? Do you give it the first week before you put the band on or when you put the band on?? And do you give them more after it falls off??

Thanks for the help.

I gave 250mg twice per for 5 or 6 days, starting the day before i put the band on. But his tail was a real mess when I put the band on or I probably wouldn't have even bothered with the Amox. I didn't give anything once it fell off. I had absolutely no problems at all, should have done it a long time ago.

My dogs tail is a mess thats the reason im doing it.

The other day i had him out with my other dogs for about an hour and a half, and he lost more blood then he ever has in a days worth of hunting it was just pouring out of the tip of the tail so i decided i have to do something before he gets real weak and colapses. He is fine now.

Yeah 54, Trots got so bad that it was affecting his hunting. You could see he would want to get in the brush, but had to force himself cause of how much it was hurting. The last time I was out with him when it was so bad, he was actually acting like he was sick, it made the decision to crop it easy for me. Good Luck. By the way, his fell off in 21 days.

54, you should see an improvement in the way his tail feels in just a day or two. After just 24 hours, Trot acted like a new dog.

I haven't taken any pictures of him since I did it. There is a picture of him over on the HuntingPA board under a post about "blueticks", but you can't really see his tail that well. Trot had a small bend in the end of his tail since birth, and he's a pretty big dog, to go along with the fact that he won't stay out of the brush, it was really beat up, the bone was sticking out on one side. Here's what to expect... He'll yipe when you first put the band on. I put it over a shop vac tube, so that I could slide the band off very quickly and get it where I wanted it. The next day you'll notice that instead of oozy and bloody looking, the tail will look like one big dark red scab. Then after a couple of days it will turn completely black. Then after about 18 to 19 days, I noticed the end going limp and then if fell off. Oh, one other thing. I took scissors and cut all the hair around where I was to put the band for two reasons... 1. So the band would make a tighter fit and 2. It gave me a marking point for where I wanted the band. Good Luck I'll try and get some pictures of Trot with his tail cropped, but we got bombarded with snow last night, so it may be a few days.

Thanks Huntinfool.

Its good to know what to expect with when i put it on. Yea i was planning on cutting the hair away where i am going to the band on.

How much snow did you get up there so far??? We have about 5inches down here right now maybe more i haven't been outside yet, and its still snowing mixed with sleet. They closed the school due to all the roads being icy, so i might run my dogs later.

We ended up with a foot and a half of snow. The winds have been blowing about 30 mph though, so it drifts right back in after you plow it out. No running for me, at least not for a while. Even Trot can't run through this stuff and he's 15 3/8. They'd need a snowblower on the front of them.

Any of you guys got a close up of the dogs tail before you banded? I've got a dog that I think needs banding. Only had to do it once before and it got progressively worse throughout the season, until I banded it off.

On another note, have you ever seen a tail you thought should be banded heal up?
