Keep the dosage low like Windkist said, and it will be fine. It sounds like the Scratches to me. You may end up doctoring the whole litter.

If the patch of dry skin is crusty feeling like there is a hard area under it you have a staph infection going on, it will spread from one spot and get larger, you will need to bathe the pup with sulfadine shampoo and get him on oral anti-biotics. If you treat him only on the outside it will not cure it up. Check the other pups as well feeling them all over for one has it you will most likely find it starting on another one. The skin will be flakey and flake up after a bit.

Put some vinegar on the spots, if that doesn't help in a couple days, switch to betadine.

Yes, I've given it many times to 4 week old puppies. I also agree an oral antibiotic would be in order.

Deny I would take him to the vet, I can't remember the name of the antibiotic given to the pup. # 1 reason I would take the pup to the vet is that puppies will and do get just about every thing that there is out there... and better to have a professional diagnosis then getting a board diagnosis. We can't possibly correctly tell you what your puppy has unless we have seen it and then it is just a guess sometimes.

Besides if your pup does have that staph infection you will want your vet to give you enough for all your pups just in case the rest starts popping up with the crud...
