natrually trash proof

Post by Guest »

I want to know what people think about the majority of beagles. I have always thought that the majority of beagles had to be broke. On another board I got ripped for my ridiculous thinking. I thought it took a pretty special dog to be natrual trash proof. I dont doubt there are some but I would say the majority need to be broke. Just wonder what others think on this issue maybe I am way off base and wrong  dont know I hope to find out though

No perfect Beagles

Post by MasonsBeagles »

There are not any perfect beagles anywhere. Most need to be broke by some means. This is not to say some require more breaking than others but they all have faults of some kind. Just my opinion.

There are some dogs that if not exposed early on, may become naturally trash free.

However, there is not, nor will there ever be a trash free line of dogs and I challenge anyone that says they have one.

I have a dog that has turned down deer without being broke but I have others that have been shocked. I have some that I don't know yet. Like I said, there are some that are but they probably never jumped one at an early age and are probably smart hounds. I stand behind my challenge. It is not a sin to have a dog run a deer. You just have to break them. They want to run a scent and if that trash if laid in front of them, most will take it. I don't recommend putting a young dog in a field full of deer. Let nature take its course with him/her and maybe she will get enough rabbit that he/she won't run one. If they do, break them.

I have owned one that NEVER ran offgame of any kind. She would run ONLY cottontails. She even came back when the other dogs ran blue tails and bucks. This was a PROBLEM as she would come back to me silently during a hot race and was always afraid someone would get "trigger happy" when she did that. I would rather have a one that would bump a deer or a fox when it was 9 months old but could be broken EASILY. Some people are never satisfied huh?

Over the years i have owned many lines and have had some from each line that attempted the forked toed grass eater but i would have to say as a whole the patch line has given me the least trouble. I am not saying the line is naturally trash free but i can tell you they have been the least likely to take off game and if they did were darn sure the easiest to break!
Second would have to be the Breedemeiere hounds especially the ones up close to Barefoot King.

Just my opinion!

I don't think there will ever be a totally trash free line.

I think it is possible to make a line smart enough to be easily broken.

I have two dog's out of totally differant blood lines that are naturally trash free.
One is out of F.C. Wookie the other is out of Kingwwod breeding.

I have a third male out of F.C. Sure Start Spencer that has never taken a deer but had to be broken off fox and coyote.

The male I have out of Wookie is two and has never offerd to run anything but a rabbit. Why who knows ? His litter mate brother has ran deer. So its not that the hole line is trash free.

The Kingwood breed male is only a year and so far has turned everything thing down. But I havent put a hole season on him yet so I can't say for sure.

I raised and trained all these dog's togeather why some do and some don't is beyond me.

But I live up here in Michigan so they have the opprotunity any time they want to try a deer. But they better enjoy it while it lasts ;) cause I always use a coller untill they are totally trusted.

Anyone telling you they breed a line that is trash free is blowing smoke up your backside. Some matings - bloodlines seem less prone to run off game but nothing is 100%.And truth be told, aka some matings and bloodlines,a lot of that is in the handler - tainer that brings the pups along.

A bold young pup can and mostly will run off game of some type in its young life.As Barney said,,Nip it,Nip it nip it in the bud right off.

Naturally trash free bloodlines is a myth.

Beagles by nature are hard headed and energetic. They have to be hard headed to a certain degree to run naked through briars chasing rabbits. This has been bred into them for hundreds of years. With this in mind take a pack of very energetic beagles who can't find a rabbit track for a little while then throw a fresh deer or fox track in front of them. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS FOR TRI-TRONICS. :D No matter how they are bred most beagles can only take so much pressure.

im with swamper... some lot easier than others.. im not sure that being naturally trash free or breeding for dogs like that is even a good thing... a lot of trashy dogs ive seen were very tough... real agressive dogs and when i got them broke some of best ive seen.. i also have seen crazy dogs very hard to get broke... dont care much for them either.. im not convinced about strains of trash free dogs.. ive seen plenty of individual dogs that were never broke off anything.. this is partly the dog and partly training and luck..

I agree with most of what has been posted here. I do believe in natrually trash free dogs but not lines. I believe that they are the exception and not the rule when looking at beagles. I feel that you can breed a line to break easier than other lines. I think most beagles need to be broke. But to say you take young dogs in the woods where there are deer and and they never run deer because they are from a certain line is bull roar. I have gunned dogs most of my life and only have seen one trash proof beagle. She turned down race after race and even would come back when the other dogs took the deer or other off game. She was never shocked or broke in anyway. So I believe in the trash proof beagle but not the trash proof line.

I also think that if someone is trying to breed for trashfree that they are waisting their time. Breed for the important traits that you can control to some extent and worry about the trash breaking when it arises.

"guest" like i stated on the other board for whatever reason i dont have trash trouble (95% of time) so if you dont believe that, i guess thats your tough luck, but you have an open invite to come see for yourself. currently i have an 11 month female i would show. i have older ones i would show also but i dont want you to think im hiding the young dogs and only showing the older ones. this is my last post on the topic. i know what i got and currently im having great luck making more of the same so good running to you and dont forget the tritronics, sounds like you need it.

I will need tritronics but only once or twice because they have brains and break easy. None of my dogs run deer because i dont give them the chance too. I break them as soon as they start running rabbits. I dont doubt you have good dogs every one around says great things about your blood line just never heard of a trash proof line 95 % of the time. ?? I believe your hounds are good I have no reason to doubt you about there abilities. I just have never had expierence with a trash proof line wish i was lucky enough to say that I had. I am not trying to hide as a guest my account here is all messed up and the name is still the same SMITTY1233 ksmith@vernonagency.com if you would like to email me feel free.

The ONLY trash-proof dog is one that never ran trash until the day it DIED!

I saw a guy get totally embarrassed once when he had bragged about his dog being trash-proof. As a matter of fact, I had seen the dog turn down a deer before myself. However, this one particular day we were out running and three big doe deer scampered across a field and the guy told us again ole so-an-so will tell us if ya`ll's dogs strike those deer....lo and behold HIS "trash-proof" dog came through with several young dogs yipping every breath on those deer! To my knowledge, the dog has never ran trash since, but it did once..and embarrassed him bad.

Temptation can be as bad on a dog as anything, and I believe one can say the dog was totally trash-proof when it dies of old age and never took trash!
