Kennel Building??

Well i've started. The kennel house is a 12'x12' with 8' walls on concrete. Super insulated. The run section is out back with 8 4'x8' runs with a 4' walkway down the middle with the ability to expand. The runs will be on pea gravel for now with the ability to pour concrete at a later date. I picked up some reject 30' trusses from the lumber yard for $15 apiece and the house has 9' overhang on both sides and the runs will be completely covered with chain link 6' sides. One side of the house will be 5 whelping pens off the ground with drain pans that will wash into a underground septic system. The other side will be 5 winter kennels so the dogs can come into the warm if they so desire. Within the kennel house will be heated and cooled and have running hot and cold water complete with refer and a table to set and shoot the bull when the guys come over. The bottom of the trusses over the runs is only 6'6" so it will be easy to store bedding and other necessities over head. I will use barrels on the outside od the runs for houses and will wrap them with styrofoam board and then wrap that with an old innertube for water shed. For the interior walls i will use the daiory barn sheets of FRP so i can wash it down when needed. Oh did i say i was coing to put down ceramic tile on the floor? A guys does tile for me on jobs when i need it and he has some left overs from time to time and he'll do it for nothinf so why not. I think my budget will be between $1500 and $2000. Have i left anything out that comes to mind.?

Bill, sounds like you have a plan! Take some pictures of the work along the way - start to finish and log your expenses. It would make a nice article for the magazine! Folks never tire of seeing how others build their kennels and getting new ideas.

Yes, I am planning to construct one myself and would love to see an article on this Bev! I hate it when I do something and then see a year later how someone had a better idea.

We put a metal ceiling in to keep the birds from roosting at night and setting around during feeding time to steal feed, and no more bird crap in the pens an food bowls. We used a #2 metal for this to save cost. There are framed in panels that can be removed for access to the attic.
We have electric in conduit to the front of each kennel mounted on the post, 6' high, in water proof GF receptacles for a light or a heated water bucket and also above each dog box in the ceiling if a heat lamp is needed(have never been sorry about doing this, a great help when needed).
Of course build it on high ground for good drainage away from kennel, perfer a south-east frontage.
