Dosage for Equimax (for tapeworm in beagles)

Excuse me for being lazy and not searching for this info but what dosage are you guys using on the Equimax. I am thinking about using it for tapeworms in the future just for convenience rather than ordering Praziquantel tablets from overseas sources. Thanks in advance for the info!

A 3cc syringe (minus the needle) fits into the end of the Equimax plunger perfect. For killing tape worms…this chart maybe helpful: 1cc = 43lbs. to 51lbs. 9/10cc = 38lbs. to 46lbs. 8/10cc = 34lbs. to 41lbs. 7/10cc = 30lbs. to 36lbs. 6/10cc = 26lbs. to 31lbs. 5/10cc = 21lbs. to 26lbs. 4/10cc = 17lbs. to 21lbs. 3/10cc = 13lbs. to 15lbs. 2/10cc = 9lbs. to 10lbs. 1/10cc = 4lbs. to 5lbs. If your goal is only heartworm prevention…the following chart would be: 1cc = 172lbs. 9/10cc = 154lbs. 8/10cc = 137lbs. 7/10cc = 120lbs. 6/10cc = 103lbs. 5/10cc = 86lbs. 4/10cc = 69lbs. 3/10cc = 52lbs. 2/10cc = 34lbs. 1/10cc = 17lbs

You guys need to save this info because it is exactly right. Really all you need to know is 1 cc of Equimax for a 50 pound dog will give you the recommended dosage of praziquantel for the tapes. Then just proportion it to the weight of your dog. It's a lot cheaper than buying the tabs.

If you want to do the math, it's simple. A 50 pound dog need 135 mg of prazi... Equimax is about 14% prazi so 1 cc or 1 gram gives 140 mg of the drug, close enough.

Many vets will tell you the horse wormer is not uniform, that is, you may get more dosage in this cc than in that one, and you will kill your dog. I don't know, but I will tell you this... there was another drug just as good as prazi, and Bayer bought out the rights to it just so they could make big profits on their drug. Good old free enterprise system.

Thanks Guys! One tablet I am using now has 50 mg and the other has 75 mg. Both give good results with no obvious side effects. My beagles average about 22 lbs. so the 4/10 CC to 1/2 CC range sounds about right. Does anyone know the concentration of the Ivomectin or have a tube handy? I already give 1/10 cc per 10 lbs. of the cattle Ivomec monthly and I don't want to overdo that in "doubling up".

Do not give ivomec at all in months you give equimax. Unnecessary.

How often Do you give the Equimax? Is it a 1 time deal each month or do you give 3 days in a row?

Only if the dog has tapeworms, and then once is enough. If you are using it as a heartworm preventive, just a BB sized dab once a month is all you need. But, you can get a tube of just plain ivomec cheaper for that. 3 Days in a row of what we are talking (1 cc for 50# dog) would probably send the dog on to the happy hunting grounds.

A lot of people believe you have to give fenbendazole (panacur, safeguard) 3 days in a row to do any good. I'm not one of them, but if your dog has a bad case of whipworms you do need to repeat the worming after 3 weeks because the immature whips won't be killed by it. If you are trying to treat giardia with this drug then 3 in a row has been shown to be much more effective, why I do not know.
