Lightening protection

What's the best way to protect your kennel from lightening. My kennels are on concrete which is poured underneath a pole barn type building. I'm not that learned on electricity, just wondering what kind of steps can be taken to protect the hounds. How safe are they now. If the lightening hit the building would it just go straight into the ground or would it fry them all (the building is not touching the concrete). If the lightening hit nearby outside, what would happen then. Just wondering if anyone has any knowledege or experience on the subject. These frequent summertime thunderstorms are making me jittery.
