Revival FishMox 250 mg 100 ct is $13.99 with a minimum shipping charge of $4.46
I only looked up FISH-MOX not this brand or the generic term amoxicillin so, that is why I did not see it. I'll continue to order from revival though because I trust their product and this one looks "fishy" LOL
I personally see no reason to dose a bitch who has had puppies on Amoxicillin. I've probably whelped close to 50 or 60 litters in my lifetime and the only time I dose a bitch on antibiotics is after a C-section. It won't hurt the bitch but, its not good for the puppies in my opinion.
Jeff and I are hunting buddies, and with his success I tried the band. Put it on a week ago yesterday... The tail looks like it could fall off at any time. Its flat, dead and hard as a rock. Looks like a dead earthworm on the sidewalk! Also have run the dog 2-3 times since putting on the band... not one drop of blood out of the tail since. Prior to, it looked like a hog fight!
Another guy we hunt with is a vet, and this is now his method of docking tails on his dogs...
Any way to speed up the tail coming off, without severe pain to the dog? I know that area is "dead", i've pinched it with no reaction from the dog. I only docked about 2 1/2" off the tip.
I got the tool from tractor supply for 12.00, bands were 2.50 for 100.
I just got thru doing 5 dogs at one time. One dogs fell off in a weeks time. One dog lost her tail while running a rabbit. The rest fell off in exactly 3 weeks time. All dogs look good and had no problems with it.I might add this was my first time doing it and will do so in the future.

Been using bands for about 4 years. Got the pliers for about $15 the bands 100 for $5. I keep most of my pups till they are a little older and band the tails at about 4 mnths. old. This way they are not to short.

Do you band all your pups tails? How come, to prevent future injury in the field?
ok, i've had a band on my dogs tail for 3 weeks. the tail is dead, the band has gotten loose. but the tail hasnt fallen off. i can see the bone, do i leave it alone or cut it?
Well, my male's tail was beat the other day, bone was exposed, he had a minor crook in the last 2 inches, been there since I got him at 8 weeks of age. This season the tail has just gotten worse and worse. The last few days it's been hurting him. I went to the local farm store, bought the castration bands, they cost me $2 for a bag of I don't know how many (alot more than I'll ever use). I took two screwdrivers and Put it on last night, he's no longer in pain today, the tail is black and appears to be dead. I am running a course of Amoxicillin for the next few days, just cause his tail was so nasty, but all seems well. So as long as some side effect doesn't crop up within the next few weeks count me as "another successful case"
That's what I did too... just take 2 phillips screwdrivers and spread the band out, then slip it over your fingers and thumb. Save that $17 for the tool.
When I started this thread, I got several warnings that it might not work, was painful, could cause infection, etc. etc. No reports of any of that from those actually trying it. Hope some good has come from it.
I have used the elasterator bands on many dog's tails. I use the pliers. If you don't want to go to that expense here's a simple method. Get a piece of plastic pipe 3/4" or whatever size you prefer. Cut the pipe about 4" long. Get a piece of wooden broom handle etc. Cut a short piece, an inch and a half or so long, and fit it and glue it in the end of the pipe. Take a pocket knife, rasp etc. and sharpen the exposed part of the wood, an inch or so, to a point. Then you place the band over the sharp point and roll it onto the pipe. Slide the pipe over the dog's tail with the band streched over the end. Push the band off to the location that you want it on the tail. It will usulally take about 2 weeks for the tail to fall off. If it doesn't completely fall off but is dead just cut it off with a diagonal plier. It won't hurt the dog. Tail docking saves the dog alot of pain later if they are run in areas like we hunt with briars and heavy cover.
Yeah, I left that part out accidentally. When I used the 2 screwdrivers, I actually stretched the band over a shop-vac hose extenstion, it was about 1-1/4 in. in diameter, this way I could slide the tube right to the spot on the tail, then slide the band off.
I posted earlier that I had put the band on my dogs tail... 3 weeks to the day I was wiggling the dead part and pop, it came off in my hand. Tiny bit of blood at point of disconnect, put a little "neosporin" for dogs on it. Just a few days later and it looks great. I'll never pay for a docked tail. He never felt pain or showed any discomfort, not even when it popped off. I also ran a course of amoxicillin before and after, just in case.
I used the tool, bought the "economy" version for 12.00. It made it much easier for me, just squeeze and put it where you want it. I saw jeff's dog the other day, and his will be off in no time, the tail is dead, basically disconnected, dog just needs to bump it on something and it will be done.
