Did it hurt?

Post by JIMMIE ABSHIRE »

I know we have all judged most for years. Nobody is perfect and we have all made calls lookin back at we probaly regreted, What i would like to know is the 1 time in the field when you really thought a judge made a call that made you scratch your head. No names ( protecting the innocent)
Here is mine . The time at a big hunt when a dog started a track another dog joined in, the judges were probaly 100 yards away they seen deer go out . When they finally got there 2 dogs were smokin a deer out the country , another dog was huntin back by me . Well here comes his handler ( remember i had no dogs in the cast or any affileation with anyone just bored thought i would go out) the handler proceeds to leash his dog , i ask what happened he said he got stratched for deer . I told him his dog was in my sight the whole time . Hmm i thought at the end of the cast when score was read i spoke up, (as a spectator and said , that dog was within eye sight the whole time . Not only was i told to shut up but i was wrong . Things that make ya go hmm. :yikes: .I smelt fish deer dog won the cast . Judge went on to say there was no way i seen what i saw. Oh well

Got beat by a dog once that was never in the race and I know because it was lying at our feet and the judge was giving this dog checks, and it was the only red dog in the cast and we protested and only thing they said was "was there a rule violation".One guy saw what was happening and scrached his dog before it was over."Smart Guy" to say the least 3 people protested and lost.Have never seen this guy judge again and hope I never do.

went to a large pack hare in cherri land MI.

dog got messured out before he had even a chance. the promblem is the judge keep picking to dog up and chaging postion. when it was all seden and done he messured out by a 1/4 of a inch and so did a bunch of dogs. i would not have drove 3 hours to watch my dog be postion on the stand so he would have to be messured out. the dog messured 3 times with no promblem in med west .

the thing that pissed me off the most was when the judge walked over to his BUDDY and i seen those 17 inch plus hounds that were offical messured i was steaming. i quit trialing at that point, figured if i was maid enough to wanna fight it wasnt worth doing. there is very few good judges who dont get involed in the buddy system( from what i saw)

I had a dog that jumped the rabbit with no dogs around her but was in some cat tails and they were alot of water where she was at she opened and ran about 10 barks making alot of progress judged seen the rabbit and we did too. She lost it and all dogs came in hunting for the check but could never straighten it back out i but turns out I got a minus judge said she didnt make enough progress to be scored. I said didnt you see the rabbit and he said yeah it she jumped it then I said well why didnt I get scored. I protested and lost which was crap told me to send in 50 if I wanted to extend the protest.

Same judge different situation final cast up in the day. No dogs hunted but 2 it was mine and ed jones. ED had a dog in the cast so it dont matter about his name if you he see's this he will probally remember. Judge said about 3 minutes left from here on out no minuses. Almost 3 minutes pass dog barks 3 barks another barks 1 time just over the bank no progress at all he calls out dead track handle ur dogs positive strike on blue. Left me with second. I scratched my head and went on.

I have never judge this judges dog but I cant wait.

Dog opens up another dog chimes in track a rabbit to a hole judges ask whoo opened first? We all aggreed blue collar, they said good poaitive strike for blue rabbits in the hole. Ok,we move on, blue collar opens again and gets on the clock about 2 minutes in white collar ,just in search, sticks her head under a rock. All the other dogs go right on by still rabbity. Judge calls for handle 10 more positive points for blue collar. Then I watched another dog get a check out in the open in front of the judge w/no score. Later called for handle couldn't catch blue collar, so the judge came and helped us, she minded him real good. Seeing how he brought her to the trial for a friend he runs with all the time.

 HMMMM GOTTA GET ME SOME-A-DAT :!:

this happened at the last hunt at my home club of ironton oh

the dogs where huntin along the ohio river,it is a three dog cast with about six minutes to go and my dog barked ONE TIME over the hill by the river, well the judge made his way to the dog to see wich one it was and to get close to it,well about 3-4 minutes pass, three deer pop out and run across the field and out of sight,my dog comes out around the erea and was hopping up and down looking in the direction they went but never gave mouth and was not running the track, just looking, well there was a road by the field and the judge asked the boy handling,"do you want to get him away from the road?"my handler said yes and yelled one time and my dog came straight to him.he put him on the leash, they walked down the field a bit then went to turn loose, the judge told my handler not to release him cause he was scratched for running deer!!!!!

my handler was asked if he wanted to handle him cause he was near the road, not because he was supposed to be runnin deer.the rules say you can handle them in danger,if the judge had said he is running deer do you want to handle him well that is different,he asked the handler if he wanted to get him because of danger.

i am still scratchen my head over that one

Was in a hunt in Oklahoma when i first started. The cast was a final and there were 3 dogs .Ran for 45 min out of the hour .1 dog stood in the road by it's handler while the other 2 crossed with the rabbit at least 5 times. My dog giving mouth every breath the other running silent .The other dog may have opened twice in the 45 min.The rabbit was a small runner and the dogs never got over 100yds from the road,it was pretty obvious what was happening and i was on cloud 9.I lost 145 to 75 and my dog got both strikes. The judge has since quit beagling and the club has turned to crap. I should of been banned that day because such words and threats should never be heard in public.
