Crew, you are spoiling those dogs, ;)

Mine get raw (beef, venison, chicken, etc) about once a week.

My hubby says the dogs eat better than he does. Oh well....

How would you rate raw whole chicken backs, bone and meat and a mix of raw ground vegetables? Nothing like the real thing. No vet bills, healthy happy dogs with no weight, tooth, ear, eye, fat, energy, worm problems. No baked, boiled, extruded, fried, fat added etc. food. Add a little salmon oil, some alfalfa and eggs (raw once in awhile) and most amazing 12 year beagle on the planet. Natural all the way and half the cost of any kibble.

Without using that rating system which is a little flawed anyway I'd say its a medium grade kibble that is sure worth a try if its something you think your dogs would do well on. I just tried the Costco kibble for a while and even though I LOVE the ingredients I have had so much poop that I cannot keep up with it. YUCK! I'm gack to sams club exceed for most of them and Proplan puppy for the little ones.

I think Showdog is on the right track. Sometimes folks complicate things a lot more than they need to be. Commercial dog food is crap and I am very sceptical of what and how they list their ingredients simply because (at least in Canada) to the best of my knowledge the dog food outfits pretty much regulate themselves and one can imagine where that leads. The rating sysytem is interesting but thats about it. I get the impression a rump roast with taters, gravy and vegies would get a failing grade  The irony of course is that it would be better for your dog and cheaper than most of the commercial feeds listed ;) Folks need to keep in mind that dog feed was developed out of convenience for the dog feeder, not the well being of the dog being fed.
It's not that life is short......it's just that we're dead for such a long, long time...

I came up with a 76 on the proplan natural lamb and rice (puppy). I dont know if I was using fuzzy math or not but I switched not to long ago because I heard it was so great. Has any one added this formula up ? I am giving way to much. What did that pink bag (exceed) add up to?

Gene,

If this food is working for your dogs then stick with it. Don't worry about the score. If you have fed and liked the pink bag of exceed I'd use it rather than the proplan just for the price difference. I feed the yellow bag exceed (after trying again the costco) to most of my dogs and they are doing wonderfully on it. I feed proplan puppy (chicken) to our young dogs and puppies.

thanks Leah,

I am going to town to try to find some of that amoxocylin. or fish mox. My dog took a little tear in her arm yesterday. The vet wanted 150-200 for a couple stitches. Thats alot for me . 3 younger kids 7 day before Christmas.

It may not say amoxicillin on the package so, you'll have to check the ingredients. 250mg twice a day should be good to keep away infection. A small cut can heal just fine without stitches if you keep it clean and have a good antibiotic. If you know a few other beaglers where you live they may have some amoxi if you dont' find it.

3 kids at xmas time.. I feel your pain! ;-)
