ONE BARK,IF FORWARD PROGRESS IS MADE-- IS SCORE ABLE,OFTEN TIMES, READ THIS CASE AND THINK ABOUT IT,,,,,,,,I SAW IT ON SEVERAL OCASIONS AT DIFFERENT HUNTS ,,,,,,,,

5--HOUNDS ARE RUNNING,THE RABBIT CROSSES A FIELD THAT HAS JUST BEEN PLOWED UP DIRT GROUND BARE,,THE BUNNY GOES TO THE MIDDLE AND TURNS LEFT,,ALL THE HOUNDS RUN OFF THE END .AND GO EVERY WHERE BUT WHERE THE RABBIT TURNED,,AFTER ABOUT 4 OR 5 MIN. HAD WENT BY,HOUND #1 GOES BACK TO THE FIELD RIGHT TO WHERE THE RABBIT TURNED THE OTHER DOGS HAD LEFT THE FIELD.HE BARKS ---1---TIME HOUND # 2 RUNS TO HIM GRABS THE LINE AND LEFT FAST ,HOUND # 1 WENT WITH HIM NOW WHICH DOG GOT THE CHECK.IF DOG # 1 HAD NOT BARKED DOG # 2 WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN WHERE THE TRACK WAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ricky, You know like I do, sometimes things dont add up maybe like we think they should. A check is clearly defined!! Hound MUST claim, then move the line by forward progress PERIOD. It gives no amount of times the hound has to bark, nor does it tell us how far it has to go for foward progress. There are many situations we could go over here, but using the definition purely as it is in the rule book, it looks as if it could happen. Rough hunting day, bad scenting day, bad dog day, whatever. If the dog claimed with one bark, and moved the line with forward progress then it will receive the check. Surely you have been here before. I know I have. There will be better days. Good Lord Willing!!

God Bless & Merry Christmas

check

I would have had to have seen the rabbit in order to give a one bark check. Without seeing the rabbit how would you know whether the dog was BSing or telling the truth.

I recommend scoring marked lines only if possible.Unless the pack turns it into a run I do not consider it a solved check. There is potential for me too ers. This why as a judge you should not get in to big a hurry to go on to the next pack. This is why you see so many dogs in certain assiciations/federations boo hooing around in the brush winnig trials.Do not make a hasty decision until you have complete confidence in a hounds mouth. There could be a hound present in that pack you know darn well is true that is honoring or you seen enough of the hounds that have proven can be trusted to make a good decision.Certain grounds seeing is difficult to see so this seems like the best route when judgement is called upon.
