Bill

I should stop here as you have already lead me to pee off a lot of good folks here!!!! lol

There are great dog men breeding Beagles today and many on this site.

Folks will point to and reminisce about them in years to come. I had much rather have a today dog bred by them. In their modesty they point back if they produce a great dog, but, they deserve the credit themselves.

You do not have to be dead to be a great Beagle or beagler.

Reminds me when I drove a 52 Chevrolet pickup, it was a real good truck. Got a 64 and it was better. Now drive a 96 4 wheel drive seat behind, and if it breaks down even though I still love the old 52's and see a lot of them around here, don't hesitate to walk over and look them over and remember I wouldn't put any 52 parts on my 96 as the newer ones are better for today through the lessons learned as Chevrolet progressed.

Looking forward to seeing what the future ones will be like!!!

CPC, I hear ya I would'nt mind haveing a male out of Junie and Annie. If I understood Jimmie right the last litter was all females and the owner of Annie kept them all except for the one I have.

Alabama John, Since you got to see 1st hand I would like to know what you're honest opinion is. Was Akc trying to slow things down or get more line controll with most most foot possible ;) .
If you don't breed for hunt sell you're beagles and buy a POODLE AND SOME PERFUME! GUN DOG'S that's all that matters. The rest will fall in place.

did you see Wilcliff Boogie (SP?)? In researching pedigrees he seems to be a key dog or per say the head waters of UGBF type hounds of today. You find him in pop up in some of the LP Hare hounds but in limited doses.

I like to study those old pedigrees as much as anyone but when it is all said and done, unless you hunted with the dogs in the pedigree, some of their littermates and several of their pups, the pedigree doesn't help you at all.

If I could make one cross it would be LaDue's Cider and LaDue's Sandy. This cross was made seven years ago and produced the best dog I ever owned. I sure would like to have another one.
That is a good point Tom. As I read the posts my mind drifted to, I wonder how many have seen these dogs run and if so what was so special about those crosses. Did they win a lot of trials or did they jump a lot of rabbits and run them to the gun?
I 've bred to several field champions over the years. I doubt anyone could pick the hounds produced by a hall of fame hound vs a dog produced by hounds with no champions in his pedigree. After they are gone they don't have to defend their reputations.

I would like to know more about the History of Concord line too.

CPC
Never saw Warfield Red run that I remember. Lots of Champions came down, but the ones promoted more drew the crowds and made more of an impression.

Will Mason
Don't know if he was IFC or not.
Boogie is still known by lots of folks here in Brace and also UBGF and SPO which has some real good breeders here locally, one that today still writes articles for Hounds and Hunting.

The big discussion back then was always your question and I've
heard it answered and finally settled satisfactorily like this:
AKC trial judges said they could not read a dogs mind to see if it was running to overtake like the rules said, but they COULD judge fairly the second part which was who had the best line control.
So, Trophies and Championships were awarded to the dog with the most line control which caused the breeders to breed for more control which cause the dogs to get slower and slower. Cause and effect.

To better understand what I have been saying, I recommend everyone go watch an AKC Brace Trial and see the result of the trend started by AKC Beagles in the 40's and 50's and improved upon til today. If you have never been, you can't talk or understand line control.
There is no nicer folks and you will sure be welcomed.

I would hope someone from the UP of Mich could get on and straighten the Pete on Cottontail thing out I dont remember him being advertised
in the south for brace trialers use
I wouldnt think they would go to him for the brace trials of the 50s as they were getting into the walky talky type at the time

Guess i been mislead for 20 years hmm, If he was a brace hound how did he amass aIFC champinship statis, I do know ifc and brace houns sounds kinda funny . If it takes for ever to circle a cottaintail then how long does it take to circle a snowshoe? John i think you may be mistaken. Or eiether my brace dog line is some kinda fluke . . I do know there was 2 petes in the day . Homar lamary finished pete to ifc.
Old school Northway . Full Throttle no Bottle.
