Let him see the deer before he runs it. Once he gets to running the track shock him off. Then immediately take him to your honey hole to run rabbits. Several rounds of this should cure the problem. Be sure he is running the deer before you shock him. Seeing the deer may help him get the idea that this is the wrong animal to chase. Be cautious of overshocking or he may quit a rabbit track if he runs past a hot deer track. Is he collar smart? Does he only run deer if the shock collar is not on? If so keep that collar on him 24/7 until he is completely trained. It is best to have them wear those collars a couple weeks before using them. Good Luck! Dan M

I don't think there is any quick fix for this problem. Over shocking a dog can ruin many of them and take their hunt away but not shocking them will result in deer hounds. Some dogs are naturally straight, others need broke and then a few can't be fixed and your best to let the dog(s) go to a deer hunter - where legal.
This is why brains and loyalty are two important things I look for in a dog. I will not have a stubborn dog in my kennel - I don't care how good they are. A stubborn dog takes the joy out of beagling and creates stress - which is why I run hounds - to reduce stress and enjoy the outdoors.
If it were me I would be selling them if they have ran deer as much as you stated after being shocked. I hope when you shocked them it was more than a bump on a low setting. I would have it up on 6 and hit them until smoke was pouring out there ears. If they ran deer again after the third time they would be looking for a new home.

IF YOU HAVE OTHER DOGS THAT YOU RUN WITH THE PROBLEM HOUNDS YOU WILL RUIN THE GOOD ONES,IF YOU HAVE ONLY SHOCKED THEM THREE TIMES,DON'T GIVE UP TAKE THEM BY THEIR SELVES AND LET THEM RUN THE DEER TILL YOU CAN'T HEAR THEM ANYMORE THEN BLAST THEM BACK TO THE TRUCK.IF YOU DON'T GET THEM BROKE TAKE EVERYONES ADVICE GET RID OF THEM,AND NOT TO A RABBIT HUNTER,DON'T PASS ON THE PROBLEM,SOME PEOPLE WILL GIVE DECENT MONEY FOR A GOOD DEER DOG.AND DON'T FEEL IT WAS YOUR FAULT CAUSE SOME DOGS JUST HAVE THE BAD DEER RUNNING TRAIT BRED INTO THEM.WE HAVE A DOG IN OUR EREA THAT IS A HELL OF A HOUND,BEEN BRED ALOT AND EVERY DOG I'VE SEEN OUTTA HIM HAS HAD THE DEER BUG AND THEY ARE HARD TO BREK.WE HAD ONE TAKE OUT ON A DEER ABOUT 8 MOS. AGO AND IS STILL GONE.SO IF ANYONE SEES A LIL TRI COLOR RUNNIN A DEER SHOOT THAT BASTARD,THE DOG NOT THE DEER LOL

i believe most people that attempt to break their dogs off deer generally fail due to lack of training. in other words, take your dogs to a hot trail left by deer standing in the field at dusk or if you can show them the deer itself and then the hot track better yet. work with them everyday for 2 weeks solid and make sure to give them some rabbits in between the deer. also i dont think that burning them to the truck is a good idea either. sooner or later their gonna smell deer while hunting and you dont want them so scared they want to go to the truck. shaffer's traing center broke my coonhounds and when they were done those dogs looked at deer standing in the yard like the were other dogs. i was impressed.
