Indiana opening Day

Post by DaManBeagles »

Well just got back from the first day of early rabbit season here in Indiana. The weather was great it is also the first day of Archery season. This led to a very crowded state property. Between the deer hunters and rabbit hunters we were lucky to get a spot.

We did have a good hunt along with BMan and his dog Merle.
We was fortunate enough to have several good runs and a the opurtunity to put a few in the freezer.

But Man I need to go practice my markmenship before I had back out. I was worried about the dogs being out of practice but they did alot better than my shooting.LOL

Joe & Joel,
Thanks for going today, was a blast. Always fun to hunt over a pack of hounds that cracks the brush like they did. Man was we in em. Old Euchered looked pretty good.

Maybe I'll invest in a thrower and we can BOTH practice our shooting...aw heck Joe, we each shot 50%

Maybe we ought to take up an old buddy of mines philosophy...shoot 3 or 4 times on each rabbit real quick...He says "Throw up a wall of lead and let em run through it" LOL

We had a large group go with us to glendale this morning, some teenagers, some older gentlman, three didnt even carry guns, just went to hear the hounds. took 6 dogs. jumped several rabbits, most went to the big beanfields and had some good chases in the beans. killed three big rabbits, seen several others and some small ones. my nephew got to shoot at his first rabbit. Cant wait till they harvest the beans, you talk about running and gunning!!!!! Lots of cover down there this year and it didnt take an hour to jump a rabbit either!!!!!!!

jon i hear ya about those rabbits bein in the beans. the only time we could have got em was on the jump. i told the guy i was hunting with to let em run off of the jump. so we ended up with no rabbits. the 2 we saw ran to the beans. ran a few more but never seen em. they just kept circling in the thick stuff. never seen em then the dogs lost em. keith

Joe ans Joel I seen your names on the list down there, among many others.I was worried you boys did'nt leave me any. I did'nt get down there until about 2 in the afternoon, but you boys left me plenty to run had a blast and Dad and I got to kill a few . It was still pretty thick were we turned loose had a few get passed us so we left some for seed.

opening day

Post by Chris Spall »

sounds like opening day was good for everyone this year. We had several real good runs and put a few in the freezer. Seems like there's quite a bit more rabbits this year then there has been in the last 2 years.
Once upon a time, a man asked a girl " Will you marry me?" The girl said " NO." and the guy lived happily ever after and ran his dogs as much as he wanted to.

:D My dog Scamper had a real go blow too. He ran on the hillside behind the house for quite awhile and then hear comes a big ole cottontail through the yard with scamper sounding like he is in either pain or ecstacy, hot on his trail. :D . I enjoy the run, one way or the other..
