You can't just leave that!!! its crucial that you get the penis to retract before it starts to die or you'll have an amputation!!dave404 wrote:put my male and female in together today , and came from work this eve. and the males penis was out, checked a few hrs. later and still is.

Try using some KY jelly and some cold water to get it to go back but, it you can't get it to retract you need to get to a vet immediately!
Life's a trip

The others are right! You need to take care of that quickly! I have never heard about the "sugar thing". My vote would be KY (or Asto-glide?) - I do not see how that could fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did have a friend whose prize black and tan hound had to have a partial amputation and was ruined as a stud!

This is partly why we keep a bottle of mineral oil down at the kennel, also good for if you have a pup born out of the sack, squirting some mineral oil into the birth canal will lub & help ease the delivery of the dry pup, for the bitch.
You may have to put a stitch in the end of the sheath or make a plastic funnel to put around the hounds head, once you get the penis retracted. The end of the sheath will be stretched and the penis sore, the hound will want to lick at it and this will bring it back out of the sheath, an it may become stuck again.
You must keep it lubed and the hound from licking it, for he himself has also become part of the problem.
We've had a couple of young hounds over the years that have experienced the same problem, when they could smell the bitches coming in season and took to riding any hound that stood still.
Hopefully the vet has fixed the problem for you by now...
Best of luck...Patch
ps...it's better to use a chilled lubricant rather than water.
