oakhill, I think you just described what the mag use to be like. Are you then saying go back to the old way of doing things. Better Beagling at least had an article on how to turn a freezer into a well insulated dog house. I've never seen that before as an article. I can't remember any articles in TAB here of late though.
And Touchstone, I could care less when I got my mag, just as long as I got it I was happy. If I needed info on a trial that I wanted top go to I went the thier website, it's that simple. Bev went to great lengths to get the mag out. It was Uncle Sam that messed up all the time. He didn't seem to like Indy much. I guess he was more in tune to St. Louis.

I'VE GOT SOME DOGS THAT ARE GONNA HURT SOME FEELINGS!!!!! I just hope it's not mine. Home of Wild Hare Kennels and FC Creek Woods Blue.
Do you have a copy of this article?? I would like to read it.Bev wrote:Hearld, You were my Horticulture guy and rabbit hunt story guy. Remember when I found out about your background in horticulture? Immediately I was hitting you up for an article about the best cover for starting/running pens (lol), and you delivered.
Thanks,

Well my subscription ran out and I haven't renewed it. As I've stated numerous times on this board I've never been involved in beagle field trials so ALL the stuff about them are of absolutely no interest to me. I see the results from various hunts and I don't have a clue although I'm sure others do. I don't even know the difference between formats but I am real interested in beagle health and any other thing that goes along with regular folks running regular hunting beagles. It's not my magazine but I think if I purchased a successful one I would look at what or WHO made it successful and follow their lead. I've been around hounds my entire life but got an education from a post I made on this site about "cold tail." I can't speak for anyone else but I wpould think that what the majority of us have in common is hunting with beagles and if trialing fits into that than so-be-it but our main love is for the dogs and the sport.
I noticed with the last two issues that there has been a change. I couldn't quite put me finger on it. I thought it was just me. I'm glad others noticed it as well.
However, I can't believe the way there seems to be alot of people here that are just packing up and moving on to another mag without even trying to help things out. Did it ever occur to you, that the Ridenhours are new to this? And maybe, they don't know where or how to go about getting the stories that you want.
I think, if you can manage to write a post on here about whatever, then you could manage to write something that Bev could turn into a usable article.
Since this is a negative thread, I'll post my gripes.
The cover is plenty cookie cutter.
Bev, you do a great job, but enough of the fox thing already.
The lack of good articles.
Now since I griped I do this. I'll start another thread that is nothing but positive. I'll suggest ideas that I would like to see, and I think it would be good if everyone who has gripes suggest something positive as well. Also, maybe we could list things that each of us could write about.

You all that are gripin are those who live in the states that have been covered since the beging of TAB. The Ridenhours are doing what they can to make this magazine from all of us. As you are the ones that are complaining answer this have you submitted articles from your club or hunt? Have you ever thought maybe just the MO people now think they have a chance at getting in so they have been writting artices? I know our club has just this year assigned a reporter of sorts to try and get in TAB. If you write the article and submitt it I bet you will see it in someway in TAB. I personally will do everything in my power to assit the Ridenhours in making this the best magizine in the world when it comes to beagles. They need our help and patience to make a go of this venture not our whining and complaints. If you think your not recieving your magazine when you are suppose to write a letter or an email and ask. Don't just cry in here where nothing positive can be done. For those of you who are inoccent bystanders I applogize. I think it is inmature of these people to whine like what I have read on the last three pages.
I work to support my beagle habit.
I honestly don't see much whinning, just people voicing opinions. And in doing so I think we/they are helping the Ridenhours, if they value the opinions of their readers, which I'm sure they most certainly do. I can't imagine a good reason why they wouldn't frequent the board dedicated, essentially, to their publication. That being said I would assume the comments made on here the last few days have been duely noted. Why are opinions almost always viewed as either negative or gripes?
Harley, I'm curious. I don't want this to come off as nasty or defensive, but why does the beagle on fox bother you so much? It only takes up about 1/32 of the total beagle coverage, yet their sport is very real, pretty darn big, and well-organized. Don't you feel they deserve coverage, too?
This book has always been about ALL types of beagling. Just by nature of hunting, and the numbers in field trialing, 90% of it is going to be about beagles on some sort of rabbit. I certainly wouldn't begrudge the fox beaglers, (or the deer beaglers for that matter) their little bit of space. They work their hineys off, and wear out boots and trucks just the same as anyone. JMHO.
I encourage anyone to look at the dogs listed in these two links:
http://www.geocities.com/cdnbeagleonfox/champs.html
http://www.geocities.com/cdnbeagleonfox/hof.html
...and that's just north of our border. There's a BUNCH in the States.

Sirius, how is stating what we want from a magazine whining? I don't see anyone whining, just stating what they want from a beageling magazine. If we can't state what we want from a mag how will the owners/ publishers know what to put in it? Every time someone states on these boards there displeasure with something, someone will come on saying they are whining. Sorry I don't agree with you. The best way to succeed in the corparate world is to give the people what they want. What is wrong with that? Hare

Well I can in All honesty Say I have Seen a WHOLE LOT more on MO than I ever did the Northwest!!!!!!You all that are gripin are those who live in the states that have been covered since the beging of TAB.
Now that bein Said I dont think ANY of us Are Whining just stating our Opinion or DISPLEASURE with a product!!!
In the Corporate World you give your Customer what they Want or you Go under. I definatley Dont want to see this go under, a lot of the sugestions that are being voiced are good ones and can only help them Grow IF they will listen.
As far as submiting articles We have done so in the past and will do so again.
Bev has always had an open Mind and catered to the BEAGLER not just the trialer or the hunter But ALL aspects of beagling I would just like to see the current owners do the same....
You know Yall could just print up your OWN mag if all you want is Whats Goin on in yer neck of the Woods!!!!!!!
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
TC, there are already 4 other magazines that do that, lol. The competition would be pretty stiff. I wonder if any of them could say they had subcribers in 46 of the 50 states, 8 of the 10 Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico, and El Salvadore. At one time I was sending the mags to Sweden and Greece, too. Not trying to take uneccessary credit, the readers were very instrumental in telling me where the void in the market was.TC wrote:You know Yall could just print up your OWN mag if all you want is Whats Goin on in yer neck of the Woods!!!!!!!
Gotta keep an open mind - ESPECIALLY in this sport, or you'll pigeon-hole yourself and set an automatic cap on your readership. When I bought SPO Magazine, I only got about 1,700 paid-up subscribers. TAB was 2 years old at the time, and had 3,600 subscribers of its own.
"The American Beagler" already was the best beagling magazine in the world as far as I am concerned and I have subscriptions to ALL of the beagling magazines. MO folks could have done what the others have done and submitted articles to Bev. In fact, Emery wrote several articles that were published in TAB and he was living in MO at the time. So, MO folks have always already been "in". I have yet to see her turn down a good article. Most beaglers, unless they are heavy trialers, don't even read the trialing results. But, a beagling magazine should cover the trials all over the US and Canada. Just part of the sport as well as all the other topics that were mentioned in the above posts.
These folks who have posted on this thread are just voicing their concerns, not griping. Although, I am sure that some come across as complaining. Ya just got to know how the beagling world gets their opinions across, lol. At least that is the way I see it. I think they are trying to give the Ridenhours some constructive information. We are all here to help and we all have lots of patience.

(I'm scratching my head over that one because I even have your address memorized, lol) I owe you a subscription. If I can ever lure you and Shannon out of Danville, I have some past issues at my house, a covered porch that faces the park, (and some cold beer)
Hey Bev, Sorry just now responding..........boy we have been as busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest! I know where there is about 2 pickup trucks full of TAB still in boxes, lol.....I told Ralph he better be careful or the garage ceiling may come crashing in. Me and Shannon will have to get with you sometime and come by. I know you sent me some issues I had missed once before, I sure appreciated that. I figured my subscription just got mixed up during the changeover to new owners. Hope your doing ok. We will see you soon.
Take care,
Randy
