Pro Plan is the best feed I have found. It does cost a bit more than some other quality feeds, but is the best feed around. Purina supports our sport also. No brainer for me.

Two simple questions.

1. Has this $35 t0 $45 bag of dog food help you kill more rabbits?

2. Has this $35 to $45 bag of dog food led you winning or placing in more trials?

Guess you folks make lot more money than I, because frankly if it came to having to pay that for dog food guess I wouldn't be owning many hounds at all.

I agree Fuzz! What happened to the good old days when we went to the slaughter house and picked up a few barrels of meat and bone scraps, took it home and mixed it with some corn meal and water in a big overgrown pot and boiled it down. I can remember back when I was a kid and helping my grandfather do this about once a week! He kept around 50 fox hounds and they all kept good year around on it. Now everyone thinks they have to go to a Vet and buy some $50 bag of dog food just to get by.
I dont really have time to make my own but I think the $14 a bag Sportsmix I use is plenty good enough for my dogs!

I'm not sure what whole picture I'm suppose to see. Other than some Vet is telling you that Eukanuba is the best and you're buying into it. However as I initially asked does Eukanuba, Pro Plan, or any other $35 to $45 dog food help you kill more rabbits or obtaining better trialing results?

Reason I ask such is because I have friends who feeds Eukanuba, Pro Plan, and other high priced like dog food as well. Needless to say I can't see any greater performance from their hounds than I do from mine, which are fed far cheaper priced dog food. And for sake of argument like Aaron I feed Sportsmix as well. Am not way saying it's better, but mine does fine on it, thus can't see any reason for paying $22 more a bag for something else.

One can feed whatever they like that's their choice. However just because some Vet tells me it's the best dang well doesn't mean I'm going to feed such. To each their own though I guess.

Jamie,
Which bag of Sportsmix are you feeding? Im currently feeding the light blue bag (26-18 i think). I switched from Diamond and I had to cut back on the amount I feed each day expecially to my small females.

Aaron,

I'm feeding the black bag 24/20 as well as the green 21/12. Have been chasing a different type of cottontail over the summer, thus a few of my hounds had gotten a tad fatter than usually. Thus the low protien is going to those hounds that need. I switched from Daimond 24/20 to Sportmix 24/20 late last year. My hounds have done fine on both. Been a long time 2 to 3 years ago when I fed the blue bag. My hounds have always done good on Sportmix.

crewchf,
No harm no foul. Good running to you.
