Any Recent Problems With Diamond Dog Food ????

Post by CAINCUTTER »

I am not haveing any problems with my beagles, because I have vowed to never again feed Diamond to my hounds... The problem is with my Son-In-Laws Lab pup.. He has a nine month old pup that he has been feeding Diamond Puppy. She has been doing fine on it for over 6 months, but now after staring a new bag, she went from health to very sick. She had about two days of very watery diarrhea on the third day she tryed to eat the diamond but vomited it right up. For the next day she would not eat a bite...After more than 24 hours of fasting she seemed to be much better but would not touch the diamond food. I removed the diamond and replaced it with a 1/2 cup of Tops (That I feed my hounds)... She ate it right up...
This new bag of Diamond Puppy Food Expires Oct 07. I am not sure what mill it came from.... The last time there was a Diamond scare it did not effect any in our area.... It may be some other problem with this big now healthy 70 lb Lab pup or maybe not... Diamond Users Beware!!!!

I also vowed to not use Diamond again but I had a litter of pups in April and I couldnt find any puppy food that I was content to use so against my better judgement I have been using the Diamond puppy. Supposedly the previous problems with Diamond didnt include the puppy formula. I havent had any problems yet but I hold my breath everytime I get a new bag. I will be glad when I can put them on the food I feed my other dogs!

I have heard horror stories. Sometimes dog food really freaks me out.. because 2 of my cousins dogs got poisoned from purina beneful. I opt to feed my dog one with less ingredients in it. He only gets a chicken meal & rice blend. I would report it to the company, and ask for a refund poor pup. Hopefully your son chooses your dog food from now on.

Aaron, try the Kent puppy prime feed. I really like the way my pups do on it. Nice shining coats and tons of energy, and good stools.

I had problems with a real brown tarry diarha in a couple pups earlier this summer and was feeding diamond all cleared up when I switched feeds on them. I realize puppy feed is important but would rather feed a good hi protien sog food I trust than a puppy food I didn't. JUst my opinion.

I used to feed diamond years ago but switched to black gold (black bag)and my dogs are doing well. Have not had any problems and the dogs look good and have lots of go. A lot of my frinds have trouble with diamond.

I feed the maroon bag "high energy" and have not had any problems. I cut down the amount a little lately because it is too hot to run every day.
I did feed a whelping female Diamond puppy for a while but she had loose stools after the switch. It did not stop until I switched back. I don't know if it was the food, the amount of food, or increased fluid intake. The pups were all born and raised just fine. That was this past spring.

I switched from Diamond long before the effects of the toxin as I noticed my dogs just not doing well on it. My dogs will NEVER have another kibble of Diamond to their lips, puppy chow or not. I've raised two litters of pups since then, feeding them on "The Pride" 26/18 Chicken and Rice formula and they have ALL done well.

It could have been the way it was stored that made the fats in the food go rancid, but that still doesn't change my mind about ANY food made by Diamond (which is ALOT of different foods).
One of the BEST foods I've found for puppies is Eagle Pack puppy formula, but for large breeds, you really need a food that is formulated for large breed puppies OR feed a good quality adult formula. It's very important that large breed puppies don't grow TOO fast as they can develope a bone growth disorder called Panosteitis or "Pano" as it is called. Eagle pack makes several formulas that would work great, including a large breed puppy formula.

I feed my adult dogs purina dog chow in the summer and purina hi-pro in the winter and my pups get purina puppy chow till they are about 8 months old. My dogs are in excellent shape and their coats are slick and shiny as glass.

I recently bought two bags of food and the brand was new to me. When I opened the first bag I was surprised because the food looked just like the recalled Diamond that I use to feed. I gave it to the dogs and they refused to eat. For two days the food lay in bowls. I disposed of both bags and I'm now wondering what Diamond did with all of that recalled food.

I am sold on black gold because they stand behind there food. If you get crap they will replace it. My dogs have never looked better.

I can gaurentee once you've used eagle pack puppy you'll be sold. If there was anything that showed results like it does I'd be feeding it but there's not.

Next time you have a bred female that you've bred before. Put her on the eagle pack puppy and continue feeding it to the pups once weaned. You will notice a big differance from the other litters. ;)
