And to think, I wanted to be a wildlife biologist at one time. I have done a lot of studying on wolves.
They are no longer and endagered species in the US, there status has been moved up to threatened, not that long ago.
It is my understanding that they should not be released unless the ecosystems are good and plentiful of deer and other wildlife it could thrive on. So, I can understand why Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin would be OK places for wolves to thrive. Truely wild wolves, were supose to be afraid of people, with all the human handlers though, and releasing in the wild, I don't think thats so anymore.
There are people who foolishly keep wolves as pets. A friend of mine said she was outside walking once, and her neighbor was walking a full blooded wolf on a leash. It didn't wag it's tail or wasn't anything like a dog she said. And wolf dogs have became an increasily popular over the past few years. I live in a city and know that theres one person who keeps a wolf-dog tied up in a yard out here, from my Business Law class.
To me that seems hazardous. And a sad life for the wolf aswell. I got a little off topic, I guess. I'm sorry. I like wolves but FAR, FAR away from me. And I'm truely sorry for what happend to this guy, and the dogs.
What a tragic way to go.

Don’t count the days, make the days count.
I think thats the problem Pixel, fools want them, but in somebody elses back yard.
I don't understand these people, rattle snakes, wolves, it seems to me their trying to scare hunters out of the woods to stop hunting, instead of doing reasonable things to make it better, who's side are they on?
There are lots of deer for them to eat now, so wolf numbers will grow and prosper, but what happens if something happens to the deer, we'll have a barrel load of hungry wolves that WILL eat something, even if deer arn't available.
I have a cousin that has a 1/2 wolf dog. Craziest thing I've seen, when he takes it a ride in the back of his truck(he likes to show it off you know) it hides under the tool box like it's scared to death. It's just got a wild nature about it and it aint suitable for no pet. I told him if that thing bites somebody, he'll be up the creek and he knows that animal aint right in the first place. Seems people aint got the good sense God gave them, you can't have a movie(Dances With Wolves comes to mind), with out people go'in nuts and want'in a wild animal (well, after watching Tarzan for years, I did think it would be keen to have a monkey one time, but after learning how they all ain't as smart or well behaved like Cheeta, I got over it...lol), bad enough 101 Dalmatians did the damage it did...ok, off my box now...

That is what will happen. In Wisconsin the DNR must pay bear hunters for any dogs killed by wolves, usualy 10 - 20 dogs each year. The so called "animal rights" activists are trying hard to stop that from happening. Here in Minnesota we have always had wolves so if your dog gets killed by them and you call the DNR they will more or less tell you "sorry for your luck".
It doesn't seem like we have nearly as much trouble with them in Minnesota as the states where they have been reintroduced. I think those pen raised wolves don't act like wild ones. They are not afraid of anything. A far cry from the wolves that existed in these areas before. It is just a matter of time before that start causing real problems.

Crew, remember, Reds are not all that much bigger than our coyotes and are easily mistaken for such. I agree though, a National Park is where they belong.
I will have to disagree to a point. There are places they can live in peace but private properties are not the place. They are much more detrimental to livestock than wild animals. Mainly because deer/elk/ect have instincts to combat them and they survived 1000's of years side by side.
I know in areas with heavy snows, they can do some damage to the whitetails. I've private video from Saskachwan of this.
I know in the upper midwest (NE, SD, ND) they are on the SSS plan. Shoot, shovel and shhhhhhh!

There's one sticker around town here that saysNorthwind Kennel wrote:I was in a local party store the other day and saw a T-Shirt that said
"Get addicted to U.P. Wolves, Smoke a pack a day"
Eat Venison, 10,000 wolves can't be wrong.
Nothing more to add just that, lol.

Just talked with a friend of mind who went running last weekend in Wis. out of 7 dogs turned loose 3 where shreaded to pieces nothing left and 1 severely injured where told by DNR they would be compensated up to $2500 per dog and or vet bills. And to think these guys turned loose at 7:30 in the morning.DNR also told them to not go running unless they had a gun.And the law states it's illegal to carry a gun during training season.
Now that's scary if you ask me.
