I have used the Maxima for 5 years and feel it is the best investment I have made. Reliability has been great, only issue I ever had was in extreme cold. It would lose power unless kept under your coat or some place warm. Lithium battery will fix that. Or carry an extra in your pocket if you don't keep it warm. Range is good, never lost dogs because of it, and they can make them Yagi anttenna capable so it should be even better. I don't know if this is standard or an upgrade, I just sent mine off to have it done. The best feature is the portability, I always have mine when I need it.

I got one last year and love it. In fact I hunt in places I would never dream of. range seems to be about 5 or more miles. I have the classic with two collars. good investment, you will allways know were your dogs are............

Thurston, I have the maxima and have had no trouble at all,as Steve said range is good but it's greatest asset is by far portability. I like being able to track any frequency, nice for helping buddies or at trials.
I prefer wildlife 3850 collars to the tracker supra lite that came with the unit,3850s' give me more range and if you don't completely remove the battery cover from the tracker model it will not turn off. Good luck, Dave

Appreciate all the help. How's the striker collars compare to the 3850's?

Strike collar is slightly larger than a 3850, about a 1/4" wider. I have them mounted on 3/4" collars and they work just fine. I prefer them over the super lite because they use the magnet like a Wildlife.

The Strike collar outperforms my Johnsons, I did not know you could get it on a 3/4 in. collar. The one they sent me is on a 1 in. and is to big for some of mine. I read that the Intello is the best performer.

You can only get the Strike in a 1" collar, I just choose to switch mine over to a 3/4" some of my dogs seem to run out of neck when I try to run three collars on them.

I hear that TurnsLeft, I put a ID tag on the tracking collars to get rid of a regular collar.

Only if you run with other people using the same frequency and your to close to the same channels. It is not that big a deal but can get annoying. Here is a site with alot of info http://www.gundogsupply.com/ They have a section that explains a lot on tracking systems.
