Have a 8 year male out of stock that is known to run deer. Dont know about where he ever ran deer before I Bought him. Was 5 at the time I got him. First day he arived fresh off the airplane put a shock collor on him and turned him loose in 17 deer. Didnt offer to take a deer track. Was told when I bought him he would not run deer. Have ran him with out a shock collar every since has jumped deer and still has not ran one. Will come back to you if other dogs are runing deer. Had a female that would do the same thing. But who knows how they would react if you put enough pressure on them. Have a female breed to him that has not ran deer. Hope the pups out of this cross will not run deer but who knowes. Had a well breed female raised from a pup had every chance to run deer. let a friend that had run with her all the time have her. He took her out of state to a diffrent invorment and she ran a deer. She was almost 3 years old before she ever ran one. So realy you can only hope that they wont. But a beagle will make a liar out off you real fast whene you go to braging that they'll do this or not do that.

Jimmie yellowdog preacher I live north of Kahoka a ways. You can come here and hunt and it won't be no wild goose chase. Make plans and Jimmie I have a stud that might put that nose you need in some of them and hopefully not screw up your bloodline. Let me know if you want to come and we will make contact somehow.

Folks, the original post was about a claim that a fellow had dogs BORN trashproof. Mike then went on to state that he meant that the breeding was trashproof.
I will admit and agree that there has been a lot of good opinions on breeding and I'll also say that there are dogs that have not run a deer or trash but that does not mean their breeding is trashproof.
I will also admit that there are lines or breedings that have a propensity to run a rabbit over other animals and some visa versa but I will never believe that a beagle or any hound is monogomous when it comes to running scent.
My point and only point was that in order to prove such a claim a person would have to turn the offspring of a specific line out into the wild, natural, environment to survive as nature would have it without ANY intervention what-so-ever by man. If 100% of that specific lines offspring, generation after generation could be observed in their natural environment pursuing nothing but rabbits then would I believe that a beagle line was born trashproof. Until that time as it is proven as above it will be just a hypothesis as it is certain that with the many different statements and observations on the issue there is no science behind the claim.

I remember a guy telling me a long time ago that there are only two kinds of dogs on this planet, those that bite, and those that haven't yet.
Guess you can say the same thing about running trash.

I am sorry but I have yet to see a dog that is absolutely trash proof. All of the dogs I have ever bought have tried, once broken they are fine. Some take longer to break than others, some are more apt to run a deer than others, BUT I think it is in all dogs that scent that they will try to run anything they can follow by smell. IMO I think it has more to do with training, and perhaps a bit to with breeding. If breed well, a dog will train well, if not bred well, most likely will not train well. I bred a well bred Bramett male to a well bred Branko Bramlett female, who were both excellent rabbit dogs and would not run deer. Out of 9 pups, only 2 never attemtped to run a deer, the other 7 were balls to the wall when given the chance. Hence the reason I no longer have them. In my opinion, 7 out of 9 was not a good ratio, and I had no interest in furthering this trait. If a dog tries more than once after being broken to run a deer, they are gone.
