shots?

Post by coolbrze »

What type of yearly shot(s) should I be giving my beagles and at what ages? I keep them up to date w/ worm meds, but what about shots? I hear 5 in 1, 7 in 1, etc. Not sure what to use for what age.

For my own pups I use a combination shot with parvo, distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenze & corona. I don't use the normal DHLPP puppy shot because my dogs are not at risk for the Lepto & its a vaccine that seems to be very difficult on the pups. I've had corona in my hounds - its not serious, but not pleasant either, so from now on I'll go out of my way to find a puppy shot with corona.
The exact one I used was the Canine Specrea 6 from Jeffers pet. Cost me $4.97 each plus about $9 for second day S&H.

Sorry, forgot to mention I give these shots to pups 3x - first at 7 weeks, then 10 weeks, then 12-14 weeks. Then I give again at 1 yr, and usually do not vaccinate again for several years, if ever. Rabies is done every 3 yrs.
