beagles and divorce

The trick is to find a good woman before you say I do and then treat her like an angel every day. My wife never complains about how many dogs I have or how much or often I hunt. She is a CHAMP. I do try to spend quality time with her but sometimes when company shows up to hunt our plans get changed but it never bothers her to bad. Thanks Mis Carrie!
Thats great! I'm glad this thread went from kinda negative to really positive. I would bet there are far more GREAT! supportive spouses rather than the kind that get mad about dogs and I'll bet the dogs aren't really the underlying problem but, rather an excuse.PAPPY wrote:The trick is to find a good woman before you say I do and then treat her like an angel every day. I guess we need to make sure we tell our partners how special they really are

I dont understand how a Wife or Husband can lay down all these rules. Not just how many dogs. I would suspect if somebody is that much of a control freak they would be very hard to live with in other ways, not just about dogs.
My Wife and I have a give and take relationship. I give her my check every Friday, and she takes it. She sure aint jealous of my dogs or running buddys though.

Come Feburary, I've been married to my better half for 40 yrs. I have always given my pay check to her. If, I signed my name on a check, they would probably ask me for my green card. But I'm lucky because my son and daughter, both own beagles. I have a good daughter in law, that her and my wife can go to yard sales and shoping. I went one time with them and it was 6 hrs, I said you guys have a nice day after that. I have 2 grandsons comming up so hopefuley they will start going with granpa. They have been yard saled to death.
To old to cut the mustard, you can always run beagles

In all actuality, my wife puts up with my hobby. It is my sanity check being a stay at home dad, it is one of my few opportunities to go out and get some adult converstation outside of my wife and the people at church. If I could only get her to come out again and run dogs with me like she did before kids, maybe I could get her addicted...

Crabtree,
I couldnt agree with you more. lol I remember about 7 years ago when my wife and I started dating, I told her I loved my dogs and I always run em a lot and if she didnt like it now, then she wouldnt years from now. I told her I owned dogs before her and will still own them after her lol...I think she got the picture.

I've been married to the same great lady for thirty-eight years and she has never given me grief about my beagles. She has little or no interest in the dogs. It's quite interesting because she grew up on a farm in a family whose only hobbies were working six days a week and going to Church on Sundays. I asked her dad once if he ever fished or hunted when he was a young man. He answered, " I went fishing once but I don't tell anyone about it". They had low opinions of men who had a bunch of old skinny hounds tied up behind the house and laid out at night listening to them bark.
Shortly after we were married I bought my first beagles. We would drive up to visit and if there were no chores that I could help with I woud take the beales up the mountain behind their house and soon the music started. It wasn't long before her dad and I would sit out on the porch at night and listen to the hounds.
It was a match made in heaven. They are all type "A" personalities and I'm laid back. About the only time I get upset is when my bitch misses.

My wife usually does the posting on the board, but I will reply to this one. I am very blessed to have a wife that not only doesn't mind me having dogs and hunting, she is involved with it all also. We have 9 beagles and 2 puppies right now. She does a lot of the researching of the pedigrees for me and keeps health records and helps at the kennels and goes hunting with me also. In fact, she is extremely jealous if I suggest going without her. She is so hooked she went hunting all the way to the last day of the season and shot her last rabbit of the season on Feb 27th when she was 7 months pregnant. She had our first boy on May 23rd. He was 8 lbs 2 oz. We also have a 3 year old and a that is almost 2 years old. Our big problem is getting a baby sitter. One of these days, we'll all hit the woods together and have a family hunt.

This worked for me started out with one and I am know up to 6.Chuck Terry wrote:Guys (and gals?): the trick is to build up the number GRADUALLY. I have been married 14 years and I now have 14 beagles. Go up only one per year so they only SUSPECT you are insane! Also, it helps to let one go (choose one you really do not like anyhow) every now and then saying you are "cutting back" just to throw your spouse off balance! Then you can always add a pup later to replace the one you culled. I am not sure whether the reaction to a new beagle is MUCH calmer than it used to be or whether I take the lecture better now - LOL!
It also helps to have children that love the hounds also let them clam
one or 2 and what mom can make you get rid of their kids dog. My daughter has 2 my son has 2 and a walker coon hound that the papers
are in his and my name and I have the rest. It also helps to have a good
and loving wife. The kids due there part especialy with puppies they are
the best at socializing young pups.
