Running lights?

Post by HarleyPA »

I've heard a few of you guys talking about running at night before. I'd like to know if you use anything like a lighted collar or something to keep track of you hounds?

I've been running my dog in the evenings, mostly because I find more rabbits then. But I found that I have to stop because I can't find the dog. I really hate to stop her and call her in when she's hunting well.

I'm looking for a light that would flash, that fits on a tritronics collar. Anybody know of any?

Thanks for your help.

I have seen some flashing lights on a collar but do not know where they got them. You might try looking at some coondog forums.

i use lighted collars if the dogs break down or if you have more than one dog you can tell which dog is where. they come in differnt colors/purple ,white, red, blue green, orange. Also if your taking a pup you can tell if he in the thick stuff or running the road/ you can see them along ways in a field or on the road.the thicker the cover the less distance you can see them. there a sealed collar you take the magnets out when you use them and they weigh around 4oz. ihave had mine for about 20 months and there still like new.
I like mine so i started selling them work well in fox pens and on coon dogs too. $45.00 plus ship.

goto wal-mart in automotive get the round flashing emergency light its got a clip on it and magnet. real cheap put a collar thru the clip and take a small screw or super glue and attached the other end of the clip to the back of the light the collar will slide out when not in use. the flashing light will last for a long long time it has a small button on the back to turn on and off you can see it for a long long ways you can get them in different colours to reconize which dog it is. its so cheap when battery runs down throw it away and buy another.

Walmart here sells a dog collar with lights built into it. The problem is that everyone "plays" with them - pulling the plastic out that keeps them from coming on, etc - and leaves them one so that the batteries are dead when you buy them. Thus, you have to buy a battery that is supposed to come with it and it is still a gamble that the one you get is going to work even with the new battery. They ones that work look like the would do okay on the dog you take for an evening stroll around the neighborhood or in the park. However, one hour long run in our normal rabbitat here and they would be HISTORY (ripped to shreds)! I would go with the bells here. If your terrain is more open, a reflective collar and a "coon light" might be an option. Of course, the dogs would have to get used to the light and some might always be distracted by it. Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas.

I'll have to see what I can come up with. I was trying to stay away from another collar, cause shes got two on already when she runs. I'm not sure of how the bell would work. I was kind of more concerned that she wasn't out of the brush and getting into trouble.

Thanks

Contact Young's Dog Hunting & Pet Supply, Harold Young, 6410 State Route 159, Amanda, OH 43102 1-740-969-2176. I bought mine off of them. They have a website, but I do not know the link.
