“A LITTLE PRAYER”

Lord, it isn’t often, that I pray.
Not, that I don’t know how,
But I seldom have the prayer to say,
Like the one that I have now!
It’s nothing that I ask for me!
It’s for my little beagle hound,
He’d not be any trouble, GEE! A nicer
Dog could not be found.
Won’t you let the gates swing wide,
And let my pal go by?
He deserves to slip inside,
He was so young to die.
It’s no trouble that he’ll make.
He never barks at night.
He will not keep the folks awake,
And I know he’ll never bite!
He’s not the kind who’d pick a fight,
You’ll never have to scold.
He won’t do things that aren’t right.
He just as good as gold!
He only eats once a day,
And he won’t insist on meat,
But if you’ve some to throw away,
He’d accept it as a treat.
So, please, dear God, I pray that you
Won’t leave him ‘neath the ground.
You’ll find that he is fine and true,
And so nice to have around.
You won’t be taking chances, should,
You listen to my plea,
‘Cause if he’s in your way, you could
JUST SEND HIM BACK TO ME!!!
