Boy did I score BIG ( reading material )

Post by steve »

Just a heads up to the guys that line/inbreed I just scored on 12 issues of HOUNDS and HUNTING 1954 the price per copy was .35 cents I paid 13.95 for the 12 and going through the Jan. issue page 20 there's and article called The Shady Lake story. This is part II so I missed the first part but WOW what a story about Harvey Low and how he developed this strain of beagle through extensive line/inbreeding and some of the crosses he made to get the dogs he did,had to put the copy down to let some of this soak in.And you wouldn't believe some of the prices back then on stud fees, dog supplies ect.I'll keep you guys posted on any more cool articles I read in this batch of 12.If this story wasn't so long I'ld like to print it for everyone to read or if anyone has Idea how I could post this without stepping on some toes that would be great.Later Steve.

Steve,

You should copy the pages and send them in to the American Beagler.
:)

Sounds like excellent reading!

That wouldn't be Bev's decision. I'm sure it's copyrited material.

One could however, print excerpts with permission from the original publisher.

No... actually I'm alone right now. Image

In all seriousness, I know Art Slike, and I don't think he would ever allow a total reprint of a H&H article to go unanswered. Somebody would be hearing from him.

Steve,
I guess the heat up here in Ohio was to much for those Florida dogs. So now all you want to do is read how to breed something like we got up here. Sure miss your visits, and hey those gold nuggets are even better now then when you were here. Come back and see us you all.

I was wondering if you'd "hit" on that one......almost made me edit it, but then I thought naaaaaaaa, even if her mind is in the gutter she'd have no use for a little pirate, she'd want a big one

Would Art let you reprint this story.Carl Randles JR. and Walter Hyatt are the names of the guys who did the story.Otherwise Harvey Low used alot of yellow creek breeding to create the shady lake dogs.
Thornie I believe you have me mixed up with someone else as I never been to Florida I'm in Minnesota and anytime I can read about how someone else started or had success breeding I'm reading it.
Bev any other Ideas I'm open to suggestions.

Steve, I probably have enough connections that would allow me to write a new article - the lowdown on Yellow Creek breeding from a different perspective. It's on my list of "things to do", but I don't think Art would allow a reprint, and I'm no longer the publisher of TAB - merely the Editor. More than likely, he would reprint it himself if he had enough requests to do so, and one would have to subscribe to read it. He is a businessman afterall.

That seems bogus that article is so old and they have statutes on everything else. Heck you can even kill someone and if not caught in time you are good to go, arent you? LOL Paul
