Rule Change
Moderators: Pike Ridge Beagles, Aaron Bartlett
I agree with Roy P, measure everything before the trial.
Also, a rule is a rule. If a dog is over, it's over. Bottom line. If you start bending rules for one then you have to bend it for everyone. So why have rules if no one follows them. That's just like a 'black lie' and a 'white lie' what's the difference. Well my opinion is that there is no difference, a lie is a lie.
The rules should either be amended or enforced. If they are enforced, you guys with dogs over 15" should leave them at home.
I was once told by a bench judge/breed inspector that the breed inspector can ask to measure any dog he thinks is over sized before a cast is taken out. I don't know if it's true or not but if so then it's not enforced.
I just thought I'd drop a dime in the bucket.
Enforce the rules to the letter or toss them out of the window.

oversized
I personally don't care as to the size as long as it's a beagle and in one hour its not that big a deal. Saw on cast of grands that was mostly 15 inch hounds except the winning hound who was doing good to hit 13 she was 3rd or 4th on the line at least the times we saw them and when they over ran she checked them up. I say leave the rule the same but just know that when you run a hound thats at the limit you run the risk of being measured out and then its fair to everone. My 2 cents. Dave

IF EVERYONE IS GOING TO DROP 2 CENTS, HERES MY QUARTER. IF I REMEMBER RIGHT, THE ONE WHO HAD THE DOG MEASURED, TOLD HIM AS SOON AS THE DOGS WERE ROLLED. "YOUR MEASURED."
HE HAS MADE SPEACHES ABOUT THIS TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN, BUT HIS HI FILUTING BUDDIES DOGS ARE BIG, SO, WHY NOT HAVE THEM MEASURED? HIS IS A DOUBLE STANDARD.
I HATED IT THAT YOUNG GUY. HERE HE HAD A DOG GO DOWN TO THE FINAL 14, AND THIS GUY HAS HIM MEASURED OUT OVER A 1/4 INCH. IF THAT WAS GOING TO BEET HIS DOG, IT AIN'T MUCH DOG ANYWAY!
I KNOW IT WOULD HAVE MENT A LOT TO THIS YOUNG GUY TO HAVE WENT AS FOR AS HE COULD AND PLACED OR EVEN WIN.

I will agree with most that rules are rules and they should be followed. That seems to be what has got the ARHA in trouble the most in the last few years but I wont go into that. Different registries do the measuring differently but as long as its done the same for everyone the day of the hunt im fine with it. UKC measures all dogs before the hunt, measuring some of the dogs seems like a waste of time because some couldnt measure out if you held them up but I understand why they do it. I dont know any of the details of this story but if the dog got to the final 14 in the World hunt and measured out by 1/4" he was well over that at the start. I would say he didnt belong in the hunt to start with according to the rules.
Im going to move this over to the Field Trialing forum.

This was just a Ideal that i had and heard several people talkin bout, the reason I put it on here was too see what everone else thinks and Now i know So thanks for the input......if you dont tell People what you think bout something from time to time no one ever really knows....i hope nkc Passes somekind of rule like this one day... but i dont think it will ever Happen but o well at Least they know what i think bout the ideal!!!!
i measure dogs all the time in akc lph you have to measure dogs unless there offically measuredbefore every trial.i give the dog a 1/4 in leway i have seen some big dogs run16in makes you wounder i also have seen over sized dogs that seem to measure in because there trained to measure in. i think if there is a rule theres a rule once you start changing for 1 it has to be done for all. i think lp has more problems then the ocassional dog getting measure out maybe this was like the clamer rule in racing someone did someone wrong and this was payback i wasen't there all i know is how a dog can run for years in the opens and run every weekend and not finish makes you wounder.i have always said that if i loose by a 1/4 of a inch i deserve to lose just my opinion
measuring
I personally have never had a dog measured and never will, but to each his own. I thought the deal at the world was a raw one, but he was in his right to have the dog measured. This isn't the first time that this person had a dog measured so I would say it is par for the course for him, but I would like to see some rules put into place that will eliminate some of the gamesmanship that this same person uses to finish the same dog in the top 10 of the HOY race in the Open class 3 or more years running. He doesn't break any rules or cheat but the gamesmanship is BS.

The boy that was measured was a good friend of mine... He had a good dog thus the reason he made it that far as well as the guy that measured him. Oviously two good dogs who both deserved to be where they were at. Oh well shi* happens to good people.
He was still proud of the fact that he made it that far as well as everybody else who knows him.
I think when the dog is registered it should be measured then and let that be that. That way nobody could say that the dog was too big and all that crap. and that way when a young boy who makes it that far in his first world hunt with a good dog wont be measured out....

Wow, I'm supprised that people would talk down about someone who obviously takes COMPETITION very seriously, and expects the RULES to be followed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rules are rules, and when you go to the World hunt! I would hope the RULES would be enforced!!! This isn't some local club hunt!
I know several other RULES that didn't get followed at the world hunt. I don't hear anyone crying about those!
If your running a hound over 15" you arn't following the rules! So why does the Competition hunter get grilled for pointing out a rule violation?
