What type of trial is best for a Patch Hound?

Good post pacheattack, you are right, a good hound should be able to adapt to different situations.....cottontails or hare,different or even faulty packmates. My "Hammer" male finished in both PP and LP although he wasn't really a LP type dog. The "Gunner" male I had that was a PP RCH and a female I still have that only lacked a win to finish in PP when I stopped trialing, were both able to stay down and get their share in Mid West AKC trials.

S. R. I was not getting personal or contradicting what you said I was just stating the facts about my little experience, He said he did not want anyone to accuse him of running greyhounds, and I don't think he will be accused of thatin L. P. , but personally I think a older dog that is real easily percuaded by its running mates , if it be mine, yours or anyone elses, lacks a little bit of smarts, it needs to know its limitations and stay within them, now a pup may be easily percuaded, so I don't trial them to I feel like they are ready to take or ignore the pressure. My dogs are not that good but I don't own one that I can't take out with all the others , I take my slower 10 inch dog right out with my 14 3/4 inch faster hounds, but is just my way of doing, I like different mouths different speeds all in the same chase, but heck I'm just an ol rabbit hunter, I go out to have fun. Offer your advice he may want to take yours over mine.

Out of all the people on this post, you pick me, to make a stab at. I simply let you know, a brother to Bunny Jumpers hound, was in your neighborhood for you to see first hand.
Now you try to give my history and slander an old timer in the process, well thanks for the attempt but let me give you the facts…….
My grandfather & father were fox hunters, everything I know about hounds, I learned from them. I spent my childhood listening to the tales around the fire & couldn’t wait until they broke out the groceries on the truck hood. My dad bought me my first beagle when I was 11 yrs old in 1975, from Albert Raby, he gave 15 bucks for a grade female that I combed all the fields with in Hardin Valley. My uncle Wayne took me on my first gun hunt the following season, I been hooked ever since.
I bought my first registered Patch dog in 1985 from Elmer Mckinney & from then to 1989 I bought 5 more from him. In 1990, I bought a couple of Patch dogs from Jack Steward, out of Clyde Lefevre’s kennel. In 1991, I bought a female from Joe Craig out of Barefoot Duke Patch named MC Sophia of Patch. Along the way I bred a little here & there just to keep some young stuff coming along. Some of my pups suited me & some didn’t, I think we have all been there. I noticed the ones I liked the best had one thing in common, a female named Tusseys White Lady. I researched her lineage , with the help of Beverly Behms pedigree’s & made contact with Billy Parchman in Arkansas. He told me he got all his stuff from Mike Yates in Mississippi & that Mike was the man but he thought Mike had passed away. In 1998 I found a Yates bred male & bought him from John Lehner in PA. He came from Leroy Miller, who had got several dogs from Mr. Yates, he crossed well with the stock that had come from Elmer so I went on the hunt for his sister Lucy. Found her in Northern PA, she was owned by Rod Tate. I bought her but had no way to get her home at the time, so I contacted a friend in Illinois named Steve Smith, who was wanting to get started in Patches & cut a deal with him to pick her up for half interest in her. I found out you also had one from the same cross & that’s when I contacted you & ended up buying her too. You told me Mike was still alive & that’s when I hooked up with him. I got another Yates female from AR Cooper out of Mr. Cleves kennel an old friend of Mr. Yates. I am proud to carry some Yates blood in my kennel, he was a fine man & my friend.
Now that’s the history of my dogs, trial & error along the way. I am no master breeder, I am just a rabbit hunter who strives to own & raise hounds that suit me. Every 5 years or so I have tried to influx Patch blood that has a little different twist as to keep what I have from getting stale.
Seems it really gets under your skin that I owned a Patch hound before you did, well live with it. These dogs were here 100 years before us & will be here 100 years after we are gone.
I don’t claim to be an expert on anything & think we should all be working together to improve & promote the hounds we love, not fussing about who knows what on a computer. Wouldn’t you much rather have someone bragging on them such as Bunny Jumper is, regardless where he got them. I like to hear good things about Patch, whether it comes from you or me, Goad, Roach, Jumpdog, Walls, JBM, wvrabbithunter,tnbeagleman, preacher or Joe blow makes no difference to me, shouldn’t matter to you either.
Sorry I had to bore everyone to tears with my beagle history but I wanted to tell it instead of having it told by someone else. SR next time you want to call me out, lets take it to the briars with some hounds & settle it there, not pecking on a keyboard. Bunny Jumper
You have probably made a decision by now on what you are going to
do with the young male. You have gotten some good advice from some
good houndsmen. It sounds like you have a fine young patch hound
here. From the trials that I have experienced and the things that I have
heard friends tell me about the trials I would say to use caution in
what ever trial or format you choose to trial in. Trials can hurt your
dog and they can help your dog. They have trash runners there along
with slicing and cuting dogs. Rough running, wind splitters that can fly
but can't really account for a rabbit most of the time. They have some
really nice hounds that run a good rabbit. The problem with a trial is
you don't know what you are going to draw out with in a cast. Draw
out with the wrong thing and you might just begin to cause problems
or faults in a good hound. One trial probably wouldn't hurt any good
dog too much but if you keep running him with those kind of hounds
your now good young male might develop some problems. Go and
have fun with him in what ever you choose. I personally like to run
only with a few friends that have hounds similar to mine and stay
away from the trials. That way I can take a dog out of the race real
easy if I see a problem without a judge to worry with. I know what
I am running with most of the time so deer chases aren't much of a
problem. If I was going to go to a trial in Kentucky I would listen to
what the folks from Kentucky who trialed had to say about the different
clubs in Kentucky where I was going to trial. Since I am from Virginia
I don't know anything about trials in Tenn. The folks that I have meet
from your home state are some really fine folks and honest as they
come. If you want to trial your hound be sure to take heed to the
advice folks from that area give you. I don't know many of them but
I'm sure they are trying to help you.

A somewhat incomplete story, but I'm sure everyone found it interesting, as you like to tell it...
I had no name in my post to refere to you, so I find it somewhat arrogant that you attach yourself to it as the only one who's had the idea of carring on Mike's breeding.
As for your post below, I assume it's in reference to my saying, I hope to put Lucy to Horn, to get the size and drive I like. That was no refelction on Bunny jumpers hound, only what my hound lacked and what I hoped would restore it.
