dog papers
i'm the type of person that feels that papers don't make the dog any better. so why do so many people only want AKC dogs. are they that much better than Ukc,ARHA dogs? i don't want this to get ugly it's question. but whats everyones opinion on this.
i personlly own 2 AkC gyps and the rest NKC,UKC. not b/c i don't like AKC but b/c the UKC dogs had what i was looking for in a dog.

papers really have nothing to do with ability. in my opinion where papers matter most is when its time to put a price tag on a dog or pup. go look at the for sale sections on all these message boards. look at the higher prices on the akc dogs and see how quick they sell. then look at the arha/ukc dogs that are the same caliber dog but sit there unsold for weeks at half the price
. if you never plan to sell pups or dogs, then "grade" dogs are the way to go. but if you had a nice 1 year old female, would you rather sell her for $250 or $500?? ive been there and done that many times and now im lucky enough to have all my stuff akc. if someone is just starting out, id suggest looking at various akc lines and finding the style you like... they are out there, you just got to look. akc is like a full access pass... you may never even go to an akc trial (i dont) but you CAN if you want and you can still single reg everywhere else if you want and if and when you do have stuff for sale, why not get a good price???

Some of the best hounds that I have ever seen run never had a paper or wanted one. But I have seen some real good hounds that were papered up like British Royalty. I like papers so I can look back thru them and see what dogs were and talk with people and find out how they hunted. And as far as the money thing goes, I have had beagles, coonhounds, squirrels dogs, ets,.......and have only raised and sold one litter. It never was a money thing for me.
papered dogs
Check the ARHA and UKC trial results in your magizines, how many winners have the pedigree "unknown beagle"? Alot of them, I've never seen a piece of paper run a rabbit yet.

I'LL HAVE TO AGREE WITH WHATS BEEN SAID ABOUT PRICE, NEVER SEEN A PAPER RUN A RABBIT, AND LOOKING BACK TO SEE WHAT ONCE WAS.
I HAVE FELT THE SAME WAY ABOUT ALL OF THE ABOVE!!
BUT I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CERTAIN TRAITS IN A DOGS STYLE OF RUNNING,COMFORMATION, COLOR, SIZE, SPEED, NOSE ABILITY, MOUTH, AND HOW ALL THESE DIFFERENT QUALITIES CROSS WITH OTHER DOGS. SO THAT YOU CAN FIT IT ALL TOGETHER INTO THE DOG OR DOGS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR PERSONAL TASTE TO RUN AND TO BREED.
THEN BEING ABLE TO LOOK AT THOSE PAPERS, GO BACK 2,3,4,5 OR MORE GENERATIONS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF WHAT THOSE DOGS COME FROM, SURE CUTS DOWN ON ALOT OF TRIAL, ERROR,AND TIME WASTED, PLAYING IT BY EAR.
AND AS ALREADY BEEN SAID, YOU CAN TALK TO THOSE PEOPLE AND GET THEIR FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU THINK YOU SEE, AND KNOW.
THE MORE INFORMATION YOU KNOW ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT AND NEED SURE SAVES ALOT OF HEADACHES, AND DISAPPOINTMENTS.

That's a good question. I guess it is because they are the oldest kennel club. I have a little of all the registries. I even have several grade dogs and they are just as good as the reg. ones. As said before, it just makes the homework a little easier.

All that papers do is allow one to access a pedigree.
I have registered with the NKC for years, however due to my club divorcing the NKC the UKC registry is probably next.
The AKC is very expensive with foreign transfers and all. I just registered one pup and transferred 3 CKC pups to AKC for over $150. I've just been told about a deal the UKC has where you can register 4 for $40. I could've registered my entire kennel for that price.
Why do people insist on a pup or dog being registered in a certain registry that they don't compete in? Hmmmm

I think it has alot to due with the AKC being dedicated to the pure breed
not saying that any of the other reg. are not. With them AKC being a closed reg. and the others being open if you don't know where the hound comes
from or know the family it comes from you don't know what is behind the
hound ther could be any kind of hound or dog in the back gen. And if it looks like
a beagle it can be reg. as a beagle in an open reg. I'm sure there is more
to it than that. Not saying that AKC is perfect I know that people have put
AKC papers on dogs and tried to pass them off as AKC REG. and they are
just grade dogs. JMO

I'll have to agree with Blackdirt on this one. I can remember when UKC started registering the "foundation" stock, Hunting beagles. I had two beagles back then that I got registered due to their rabbit running ability and looks but I had NO idea of their breeding, thus they were grade as could be until I UKC papered them. The reason I believe folks are looking for AKC, is as stated above the dogs in that registry can hunt in ANY registries hunt but any registries dog can not hunt in AKC. AKC is a one size fits all as far as entering in the hunts. Also AKC is the oldest registry and it has been going long enough to establish the lines away from the grade dogs that were first registered. Every registry has to start some where and putting papers on foundation stock is in essense putting papers on grade dogs but after the documenting of the ancestry has went on for numerous generations a verifiable ancestry can be produced. Remember they were ALL grade at one time and they ALL could possibly go back there at any time.

Most Of the dog's I own are registered in all 3. [AKC/NKC/UKC] Don't Make them any better rabbit dog's. Just makes it eazy to keep the traits I like. By being able to compare pedigrees, running styles, ext. To try to find a dog campatable to all that when I breed. Some grade dogs probly were as good or better than my registered dog's.Just like to know there breeding now. Can't do that with a grade dog. Have a data base with 6000 beagles and adding ever day. Just so you will know ever beagle in the US and Canada go back to the inports from Eangland back in the early and mid 1800's. Same beginings just different results from different breeders. [SPO] {BRACE] [LP] Also as every one else pointed out easy to sale papered dogs.
send me pedigrees
There is a lot of guys that have there dogs reg. AKC. That are not of that blood line. They will go and buy a pup that is AKC. reg. and take another pup that cannot ever be AKC. reg. But will get away with it by sending in the false info. So I don't want to hear about how the AKC. dogs are pure breads. Plus what the AKC. has done, supporting all the non-hunting groups and those DAM TREE HUGING JACKASSES. Sorry if I hurt anybody feeling's, It just burns me that there are hunters and outdoorsman that still support the AKC.
Money is not everything when it comes to a goodrabbit dog. And for the AKC. to say that they have the only pure breads, that is a lie. Well I know I tick some people off, like I said before SORRY ABOUT IT.
