Kennel heaters for $6.00 each

Post by n8ies »

This is what I did to keep my furry little hunting buddies warm and the best part is it only cost about $6.00 each.

Went to Home Depot bought these http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN ... PE=PROD_ME TA&CANTLE=miscue%

If the above link does not work just go to homedepot.com and enter "halo" in the search box

6-Pack 6 in. IC New Construction Housing

Model H7ICT-6PK These were about $31.00 for a 6 pack locally

These are recessed lighting fixtures (cans) for new construction. I then cut a hole in the bottom of their sleeping quarters and mounted the cans upside down to the underside of their sleeping area put a 40 watt bulb in them, wired them up and plugged them in. My kennels have false bottoms in them so there is 3/4 air space between the bottom of the kennel and the board they sleep on. The result is a spot above the light about as big as your hand that is nice and warm to the touch but the rest of the board is cool 40 watts is about right for my location you may need more or less heat but 40 is a good start point. You may want to add a light dimmer so you can vary the amount of heat from time to time.

Feel free to pass this along and improve on the concept.

I sleep a little better knowing my dogs don't have to shiver to stay warm when it is cold out.
