In all seriousness, take her to the vet and have her x-rayed. I lost a litter this summer, was a small female and she was huge. The pups where so big that she could not deliver them. It would be cheap insurance to make sure that all is well with her, mine was only carrying two pups and she had complications with both. The first one was delivered part way and backwards. The second one was so large that she could not deliver it.

I strongly recommend taking her to the vet. This past year I nearly lost an entire litter. My female had 11 pups and only 1 lived. She is also 13".

I have a 13" also that just looked humongous. I figured eight or nine pups at least. I came home from work at 4pm and one was already on the ground. It was kinda small so I really thought big litter. Two hours later she had two more at average or just above average size. At eight that evening I heard the most awful moaning sound coming from the whelping box. She had a huge pup stuck coming out feet first. It had been there awhile cause she already had the sack licked off and was biting and pulling at the feet. I held her down with one hand and pulled the stuck pup out with the other hand, but was too late it was already dead. An hour later, the same moaning again. When I looked this time all I could see was the sack, so I called the vet at 9 at night. They said take her to the emergency vet. When I got there they reached up inside and could get ahold of the head to pull, but was still to big to go through the hip bones. They said C-section and it would cost any where from $1000-$1500. WOW, what could I do, they kinda had me in a spot. I had to pay or let her die, and I wasn't going to do that. Total cost was $1245 and two dead big pups. The little one died two days later, I think because of the cut she wasn't letting them nurse right. A week later the fourth one died also. I have one three week old female left that I think I'll name twelve hundred.

She's not too fat right now....She is due to have them in 3 weeks so when she has about 2 weeks left I am going to put her on puppy food so that the pups will be a little bigger (not too big) and so that she has all the right vitamins ans minerals she will need the next couple of weeks. I hope all goes well because I am really excited about these pups...If I get a chance this weekend I will post a pic of her on here....

I had a 13'' female that throwed 10 pups but it ws to much for her to handle i lost all but 2 and both are great hounds.
I to had a 12'' female that had 6 in her first ltter and she was huge, they all died and had to have c section on her 300.00 bucks, plus a birth indusing shot, i pulled to pups myself before i got her to the vet he told me it may have been they were to big, along with it was her first litter, so i waited a yr and tried again with her, she was tring to deliver 5 pups, but the same thing happen, but i ended up loosing her this time, by the time i got her to the vet cause she went into labor while i was at work, which she was in stress all day and i also pulled 3 before i got her to the vet.
So my 2 cents worth is if in dought take her to the vet and find out for sure her condition, it will save you money in the long run, and hopfully a litter of pups.
Every sense then though i have run all my whelping females upto 2 wks before to keep them in good condition, along with wait down, for better delivering. i had 3 litters last yr and the results was alot better.

WELL, Dottie isn't looking good at all. I moved her out to the new house in the garage the other day and from then on has taken a turn for the worse. Found out she still has tapeworms....About 3 weeks before I bred her I noticed she had them so I wormed her for them and she never showed any signs of them...Well it must not have gotten it all because it's back. She is throwing up alot now, won't eat, won't drink. She will only get up and move around while I am there. I have taken her temp and she is showing all the signs of getting ready to deliver but nothing yet. She is still 8 days from due date.

So tomorrow she is going to spend the day at the vet and they are doing to fix her up.....Hopefully she will have the pups while she is there so I know all will be fine......

Got a gyp due in 8 days and a wife due in 8 weeks. Good thing I'm bald or I would be pulling my hair out......LOL

Chaffin looks like you got your hands full, but hope the wife and baby do well, along with your momma dog with pups.

I think your doing the right thing by getting her to the vet.
Good luck with all.

Get her to a Vet to check her out. We lost a small gyp in the same manner. Hindsight is always better.

The vet said that he is very worried about her. He said she might not make it through delivery. He told me that the pups are putting too much pressure on her lungs so it is hard for her to breathe and they are draining her of her energy and minerals. He said the faster I keep her nurished the faster the pups will take from her. She is 54 days along now so she can't have a c-section for a few more days so if she makes it through the weekend then I will schedule her a c-section next week. She won't eat or drink and he said that she had to to have a chance for survival. Since she won't do either I am on my way to pick up some pedialyte (spelling) to pour donw her. Keep your fingers crossed...because these should be some mighty fine pups if they ever get born....

Well after checking on her this morning I decided that she had to be taken to the vet for an emergency c-section. When she got there the vet said that if she hadn't made in there in the next few hours she would have died.

However I am relieved to say that moma (dottie) is now doing fine and has 6 pups that made it. 2 of which aren't looking so good but it's more than I figured we'd have. She had a total of 10 pups but 4 didn't make it through delivery... :(

I am really excited about these pups ... :D

Well I'm in the process of moving today so I better get back to it, just wanted to jump on here and let you guys know how it turned out....
