Using a yound dog for breeding under a year old.

This question is due to another question out here.

1.How many people have used a yound dog for breeding? Either accidental or not...
2.Did the pups turn out? Were you upset with the outcome?
3. Has anyone ask AKC this question before?

I'm going to call AKC tomorrow and get an exact number from the beagle side of breeding... then the truth will come out.

AKC Standard
Breeding age limits According to AKC Rules, Chapter 3, Section 5, the dam must be at least 8 months but not more than 12 years old on the date of mating. The sire must be at least 7 months old but not more than 12 years old on the date of mating.

Don't need to call AKC. Above is their rule.

Pups would 'turn out' with a young stud, he only provides DNA. A young bitch is another question, that's when litter failures and problems happen.

Thanks Show dog but, I'm also looking for the number of dogs that are bred close to that age... that have AKC papers on them...

I wouldn't think that is somthing they would have on hand to give as info.to me or you and they may think it is crazy to be asked for that.I would.But hope you can find out would be interesting.Dan

Shiawassee Bottom Big Moon was bred before he was a year old, and the pups all turned out! Moon was later sold to Bob Smilowski, finished to a LP Ch. and Bob bred him quite a bit. He sired dogs like LP Gr.Ch. Red Barn's Ace of Spades, and McCutchen's Eastview Thumper.

Im sorry if i did not understand the question.
1. 8 month old pup accidental or not breeding is a long shot at best a very long shot .
2. I have only bred to proven sires not puppies. My son is a college prospect in soccer already having letters from different schools , he plays high school varsity soccer , should he go pro? I dont like varsity to much pressure . UNLESS you are another genetics scholar , which this board has several of

. Apples aint ready till there ripe , you cant run a colt in the derby . So with out being a smartie why would you go out on the genitic limb like that .
3. I do not need to . I hope i am not offending you sir i only wonder at times why people as yourself come up with these ideals

how does a dog become a "proven sire"?? i would guess its not by waiting til 5 years old and breeding 3 or 4 females. and im not talking proven dog, im quoting your "proven sire". food for thought i guess.

like i said elsewhere, this is not what i would do under any normal circumstances but when you get one that you can tell is "special", i think its worth a chance. i was looking thru my records and ive never used a male under 2 1/2 for stud before... all what i consider very nice dogs and not all these breedings turned out as good as expected. its all a crapshoot... the sire and dam are only pieces of the puzzle. you got grand and great grand parents to take into consideration and a good dose of luck is always a plus!!

well back to just watching

... running was pretty good today... how bout you guys?

I'm no scholar at all... I'm just asking questions to learn and help fellow beaglers learn too. Without Bashing someone.

Is your son that good to go PRO? Young kids go all the time.

It's not my dog I'm talking about.

But, Not to worry, I'll call AKC tomorrow, as stated above, and we'll see how many of US actually do breed to young males...
