Lots of snow

Post by Hare Hunter »

We got dumped on here in upper Michigan last week. Over 2 feet in 2 days plus a few inches each day since. I have tried running the pack but it isn't pretty as the snow is deep and fluffy. Been running solo the last two days and doing so again today. I don't know who hates it worse when I take one, the dogs or the wife! Lol They don't like getting left home but know not to bark when I'm there. My wife let me know they are not so quiet when I leave. Hoping for a warm up soon to settle the snow so I don't hear about it anymore. Hare

Hare hunter were in the same boat, we have alot of snow now also. I think it's wonderful don't want spring to come having to much fun chasing them snowshoes around. Feb and march are our biggest snow months. We should get another 2 feet by springtime :D You difinatly need snowshoes to walk in that deep stuff. Loading up the Tundra and the hounds right now to go out again. Have a good Day!

Emery, no trouble as far as getting out, just that I am soloing right now and the wife and dogs that get left behind aren't too happy with me. LOL Hare p.s. snowed about 4 more inches last night, going out about 9 a.m. for more running. Hare

Thank you. Its my pleasant to write here! :)

First of all, a little bit about drever. Drever is 30-36 cm high and 50-56 long (body lenght without tail :) ) as single hound used little houndbreed.
Wight about 15-20 kg. ( I dont know the american measures, hope you can "translate" the european measures to the american ones).

Our hunting season for hare and fox is from 01.09. to 28.02.

I am living in Eastern Finland ( about 100 km from russian boundary line) and from sebtember to nowember we have the snowless earth. The first snow we get usually in December and in Jan.-Feb. we have here snow about 90-120 cm. (= 3-4 feet ?)

The teperature is from seb. to now. about 0 + 10 Celsius (32-50 F ?) and from dec. to feb. -10 -20 C (14-4 F ?) Sometimes (like during tree last weeks more cold -39 C)

And I am hunting until to the end of february with my drevers.
The snow is bringing no harms to the hunting, the coldest temperature I hunt is about -15-20 degrees of Celsius.

So, I hope you understand my english!

I want to tell more if you want to know. :)

Have the nice days! :)

Repetti, can you post a picture of your Drever? Maybe a picture of the hare that you run.

Richard G:

You should visit my HP. :)
There you ´ll find pictures of my drevers.
And I hope, you could write a note to the questbook. :)

I have not right now any picture of hare I run.

Found this old topic.
Richard G asked for the picture of the hare that we run.

Here is a clip I was lucky to get this autumn where you can see the hare also.

When I first saw this... I was in shock

Until I saw the date. We are heading up this Friday and should get there late Saturday afternoon.

Looking forward to it and maybe getting a chance to run with Earl.

Take Care
