02/04/06 Hunt Yazoo Miss

Post by Tony Jr »

What a TRIP!! A friend and a few others headed up to North of Yazoo, Miss. for a rabbit hunt Sat. 02/04/06 We were invited to stay in a cabin/camp Friday night and get up and hunt Saturday. Friday night we had a blast with our host and were looking forward to the hunt. We'd planned on getting up at 6:30 and cooking and then going hunting. Well we were up at 5 (Thanks to a buddy snoring LOL) and breakfast was on! After filling our bellies we headed for the woods/bushes. Well right off the bat we jumped a deer and with in seconds the dogs are off of it! We continued to walk/hunt for around 2 hours and saw that the rabbits had moved on so we decided we should too! After a call to a buddy we changed locations. All I can say is, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! We found a few rabbits!

Loaded and ready for ole Cottontail!

We ONLY killed 8 cottontails. We missed 8 or so more and couldn't get shots on 8 or so others!! I only have 4 shells left from a box that I started the day out with!! We had a good time and hoping the next 3 just get better!!

PS. On a bad note, I killed a snake today!! Sucker was coming down the bank beside me, SHHEEEZZZZ I hate those things!

Looks like you had a great time! Got to hate snakes in MS. I've seen a cotton mouth in Jan. while deer hunting.

Just got back this morning from a week in the Delta myself. The weather was great yesterday. We were able to kill 19 on some private ground with a few of the locals we met last year. Did you guys hunt Lake George at all?

Postman, we were just North of Lake George and Panther Swamp on pirvate land that is being converted to WRP land! Do y'all hunt at Lake George? I hunted there once this year, but it's had hunting. Lots of rabbits but not many clear places to get a shot at them. Wish I'd known y'all were down we could have meet for dinner or something!

Did y'all kill mostly cottontails or swampers. We killed all cottontails on this hunt.

We killed all cottontails on Saturday and all swampers on Friday (5). We found the same at Lake George as you did but the running is really good if you want to listen to the dogs and get them in shape. We also hunted Sunflower. They have some two year cutovers that hold rabbits and they have riding trails so you can get a shot. Sites 42, 75 and 69 have been the best for us.
We always head south the first of Feburary so next year I'll give you a yell and perhaps we can get together. Don't kill all the rabbits I need a few for next year!!!
