I have a male that's a little over a year old who has the makings of a fine jump dog. He's out of Matt Glomski's Hit Man x John Boller's Bonnie XXIV. This dog has brains and just seems to recognize good rabbit cover. He's not what I call a "brush buster" in that he doesn't really tear up a briar patch searching for a rabbit, what he can do is air scent them like a bird dog. He will actually work the wind to his advantage and you will see him actually stop dead in his tracks when he smells one then stand up on his back legs to get higher just to make sure THEN he will blast into the cover and jump the rabbit for the race. If I put my four hounds on the ground he will easily jump 80% of the rabbits we run that day. My other hounds have what I call good search but they just don't have the knack for jumping rabbits like this hound.

I've got a 7 month old patch pup that is doing the very same thing that RJG's dog is doing. He is still developing his skill and only gets a rabbit up maybe 50% of the time. Its really kind of neat to watch. He will skirt down wind of the cover, stand up on his back legs scenting the air and then just bust into the cover. One time he actually Hark'd before he went in. That time the rabbit was only maybe 10' into the briars.

I second that on the Ol Buzz dog. I have seen him run on and off since he was a pup, and he was a jump dog from the get go. A good solid jump dog is hard to find.

i have a young male(7 months) that is out of Glomski's Hitman and his Abilene bitch which is Turbo and Ace in The Hole bred. He just knows where to look. He will be in a back yard and look for a clump of grass that might hold a rabbit. He is a brush busting hunting machine.

I have two bitches. Brandi is about five years of age. She has Wingates Brandon, Sunkenland Sparky and Gay on top and Gay and Pearson Creek on bottom. The thing that makes her special is that when you turn her loose she heads for the nearest thick stuff she sees and plows through it. She doesn't waste her time investigaing old night tracks but constantly uses her nose to locate a rabbit. I have seen her just shoot ahead through the honesuckle and jump a rabbit that is sitting. When the rabbit is up she screams in a high pitched squall then settles into a high pitched chop. Brandi is a dog that hunts with me. I don't have to look for her she comes when called, if not running, and stays with me. I can walk alongside a thick ditchbank or fence row and she will plow through it at about the pace I walk.
The other bitch, Josie, is out of Brandi's littermate by FC Bucks Branch Kalagha. She hunts in the same manner as Brandi but is a little more independent. She is two years old. While she doesn't jump quite as many as Brandi she hunts even more relentless. She just hasn't refined her technique to the point of Brandi. I have alot of fun with those two dogs and very little aggravation. Neither runs deer. Brandi has never ran a deer and Josie has not run one since I have owned her and both have had plenty of opportunity. Brandi's grandmother by FC Sunkenland Sparky and out of a Michigan hare bred bitch, Tiny's Furnace ST Bell, never ran anyting but a rabbit and I owned her from about nine months until she died at about twelve. I lied, she did kill a couple of my neighbors chickens which cost me $200. (Fighting Roosters)
 She never botherd my chickens.

I have a 3 yr. shorts pro, line breed female that has a super nose, she can stick her head in a brush pile, and you can tell by her actions if there is a rabbit in the pile, she will try to catch it.Its like she has an extra sense,She is a very busy dog ,full of hunt. I just had her breed to the tan man dog that has one of the best noses that I have seen in a while, cant wait to see the results from this breeding. Thanks Mickey Baker
