I've seen a few good pitbulls, they were catch dogs for hog hunters. Very loyal to the owner and friendly enough to a stranger but, they were selectivly bred for this. Hogs are a mass of distruction in some areas, the catch dogs are a vital part of the game at controling the problem. It is great sport for those involved and tho I'm a bit squeamish of all the snakes of the areas, I'd take the chance at getting in on this game a time or two.
I have a friend that has a few rotties, most will lick you to death but he has one male you'd better not make eye contact with(according to him, he will never be sold or bred to).
Selection for breeding is the key and makes all the difference in the world on dogs and hounds, as we know this with our beagles.
I have another friend who raises rodeo bulls, he don't let the kids do the feeding, you have to respect the animal for what it is.
Dog fighting is all about courage, people wanting to see the display and craft of fighting dogs with courage.
Bull fighting, running with the bulls, is also another thing, only it is the man showing his craft and bravery against the animal.
Many say these are outdated sports left over from uncivilized times but consider this, we still go to battle on the field in times of war. I, for one, would rather have a group of Ky squirrel and rabbit hunters in my squad, rather than a group of PETA supporters to back me up when the bullets start flying...jmho
When you've been around enough people, you'll notice how much of themselves is reflected in the way they live and the animals they keep... so now you see why the city folk have such a hard time figuring us out and us them... the one thing I am always reminded of is a statement Randall made when trying to figuring out where fate had lead him and this was, "the one thing I could never be, was what God never intended"...
