Dogs are having seizures. Need some help

I've had two dogs for 7 years and they never had seizures before and one 3 year old also. None of them are from te same line. Over the past month all three of them had a major seizure. I feed the same feed ad they are in the same place. Same worm schedule and same everything. We recently moved and the water here is awful but I doubt that's it? Could it be I have some bad feed. I am feeding black gold. Don't know what to do guys... Vet says it will cost a lot of money to start running tests on all the dogs..

One thing from my own experience, is this while they are running over a short period of time, long period of time, while not even running, just while in kennel? Had 2 that just needed some sugar while running hard at about 7 years of age, carried Karo syrup in small jar with me while running, which took care of problem. You could rule out the water, ya ever try the water your dog drinks out of a puddle while out running? Good luck.

One was out running but the other two were in the yard right afte I let them out. They all three looked conscious during the seizure and did vastly improve when I gave them sugar.

I had one that did the same thing kayro syrup did the trick.I would suggest tring it sure won't hurt

If just one dog was doing it, that would be one thing… if two dogs are doing it, it is truly troublesome. If all you’re “unrelated” dogs are doing it? It is "potentially" a very serious thing. There are many things to justify and make one dog have them, like worms, low sugar... including within their DNA. But 3 unrelated dogs and generally within the same time frame?

Since you know it is not DNA related because the dogs are not related, it must be contagious to other dogs, or they all have encountered the same experiences and opportunities to get it.

#1 - Encephalitis: Encephalitis means inflammation of brain. The symptoms of encephalitis in dogs reflect the region of the brain under the effect of the disorder. For example, if the forebrain is inflamed, then the noticeable symptoms are seizures, mental depression, blindness, circling and behavioral changes.

Encephalitis is mostly caused by the infection of the brain by organisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and rickettsia.

It can come from bad food, bad water and/or eating dead animals.

Treatment: Antibiotics, Antibiotics and more Antibiotics!

Also, a product called Kampo is also known to be effective in treating encephalitis in dogs.

#2 - Kidney or Liver Disease: Bacteria, viruses and fungi can all cause liver disease. Specific diseases include Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Herpesvirus, Leptospirosis, abscesses, histoplasmosis, coccidiomycosis and toxoplasmosis.

The symptoms of liver disease are simple and quiet in the early stages of liver problems. Some dogs show no symptoms early in the course of the disease. The classic symptoms are: Poor Appetite, Weight loss, Excessive thirst and urination, Laziness, Anemia, Light colored or abnormal colored stool, Bleeding disorders, Distended abdomen, Vomiting, nausea or diarrhea, Orange colored urine or mucous membranes due to jaundice, Behavioral changes - circling, head tilt and seizures.

Treatment: Antibiotics and drastically cutting down the protein intake, buy low protein food.

I would take just the first dog that had the seizures in the beginning to the vet to get some answers.

I have a lab that has seizures from time to time. She is taking meds for them but let me ask this. You guys that use a type of sugar, do you feed it to them every now and then to prevent a siezure or just when the dog is having one?

I had a dog start having seizures. Took him to the vet. Blood work and everything checked out perfect. Started him on meds. Did some research and found that flea and tick meds can cause them. Quit using it and he never had another one and no medicine.

Could be environmental. Any farms or chemicals near by? Organophosphates and other fertilizers along with pesticides and various other chemicals can also accumulate and become toxic over time producing seizures. 3 dogs unrelated to each other has to be disease, food /medication, or environmental I would think.
