Re: drummond trip
went there years ago.....its a long way from NY also..!...spent a week there and had very good running...
Re: drummond trip
We should have got together, I couldn't find anybody to go.
I probably couldn't have helped the running but I make a mean pot of chilli to go with those olive burgers...
Did ya try the fish a Chucks place?
Were there alot of hunters? Did you see reddog and the gang? any grouse?
Sounds like the hare population is still down, we' had to go deep to find pockets of hare, road hunting is a favorite up there so ya gotta venture in to find a swamp or cedar ridge that holds some. Alot of times when a hare takes you back to his home, you'll find more hare in that area.
Sounds like a fun trip ya had.

Re: drummond trip
hey preacher glad you made it home safe....I had a great time as well glad I made the trip at least once. The best part was the almost 3 hr race on one rabbit....even swampers wont run like that.....pretty amazing thing to witness. Sr we did eat at chucks place and preacher and I both had the fish dinner....very good and well worth the money
. We did run into a lot of hunters and a lot of them seem to be from down state ''locals" per say. I wasn't impressed with the amount of hare and the hounds worked very hard just trying to find them. seems like with all the cover and terrain that looked like it should have hare its been hunted hard since opening day. I am glad everyone had a good time and the lick creek hounds have another experience under their belt and held up just fine on hours of non-stop running. thanks cojax

Re: drummond trip
Glad y'all made it home safe and sound with all the dogs,!!!! Did you happen to see or hear any wolves???
Re: drummond trip
That's the great thing about hare, they will stay up and run as long as the hounds can hang with them and you care to listen.
The first time I went hare hunting I hunted along the fields as if cottontail hunting. We made many starts in the junipers and always ended up in the woods or swamp. Didn't take long to figure out what I was doing wrong and just where the hare lived...
...the hounds sure knew more than I did.
Next month they will turn white, I like to go back 1st Dec. to run the white hare.

Thanks guys. couldn't have went with better people chuck Romine (tsa la gi patch beagles) and ricky taylor (preacher). they both enjoy good races and hound work and its not all about the kill. we didn't see any wolves but the locals say they are there and were glad to have a hunting season on them. All the locals were very nice and papins resort where we stayed made us very comfortable and didn't mind us having all of our hounds staked in the yard. very nice people that are very hunter/hound friendly. we did see several hare that were half white and brown but the few that were killed were mostly brown. thanks cojax

Re: drummond trip
I was glad to get to Drummond again. Did not find my horn but had a great time listenin to the preacher blow his. We had some great runnin and I enjoyed hunting with the Preacher, Ricky Taylor and Cojax, Jim Handy which needs his internal GPS recalibrated.
After the three hour race we were standing talking and he says and points that we need to maybe head for the truck. We would have been in never, never land and food for what ever there was
I think the population is down and a lot from the Sept season. I thimk that may be a little early but JMO.
There was lots of hunters on the Plains and some were haveing good luck and some not so good.
I got on Drummond Sunday night at 10:49. Went to the east end of the plains Monday and had great running. They jumped 4 and I killed the 4th one. I saw one 3 different times.
Tuesday me , Preacher and Cojax went to the same place After it Warmed Up Some
. Full, so we went back down the road. Turned loose and after walking in a ways they jumped one, it ran across the road and it whiped them out. The next one ran about 300 yds and circled, was on the way back and whiped them out. Drove aways turned out to the left, walked a good ways in and never had a race. I think Shantie jumped 3/4 birds which dosen`t matter to me as she runs Phesant`s and opens on them. I did not take my big hounds just my f/m and Little Man.
Wed, we went to the boat launch and had some good running. I was in the swamp with the hounds, they jumped one, I really like story Cojax told when I got up with them.
I was standing there, this half white rabbit came across the path flyin, 3 feet off the ground, then here came your pack flyin, dead on the track, (brushes face with hand) never slowed down, heads in the air and kept goin, then another pack came through 100 yds behind dead on the track. That was the last time we ran the horses with the ponies.
Thur was the last day, this rabbit went 800 yds came back and forth to 400 then selleled in at 500. We made our way in and thats when Cojax gps went haywire
.
All in all I think we had a great time, lots of gougin and funin. Thanks guys for a great time.
The still pic in the video, WELL we`ll just call that ther PREACHER MOUSE CRUMBS.

Re: drummond trip
Great Vid!!!! Im sitting here watching them and my pups are walking around barking looking for the dogs running ...think they understand honoring other dogs for sure...anyway me and the pups loved the video cant wait till I can get them on hare
Re: drummond trip
Thanks Willo5, have a 6 month old I wish I would have taken. These hare smell enough that all most any hound will run them. Sounds as though you won`t have any trouble getting them to run them. I also picked up 13 Tenn red backs and will have Stride runnin them before long. My Strise pup does the same thing when I am making these movies, I have to put him outside .

Re: drummond trip
hard for beagles to run with coon hounds chuck lol. my dogs could actually walk under some of them dogs and not touch i believe ... chuck will have to admit altho he dont want to the best running was with our dogs and with his females which actually look the size of beagles .. lol.. they ran for close to 3 hours not many break downs at all till they finally lost it . not sure if there was a check on the last rabbit before i shot it that is lol.
i will take a solid race over up and down race anytime! but thats juts my taste ..
