Emergency dog situation!! answers greatly appreciated.

Post by Mo. Beagler 5000 »

8 month old female pup. Healthy as an ox, UTD on shots (not rabies shot, has me worried to death).. ate and drank fine this morning apparently...

I get a call saying my fiances sister took dog for a walk and it was shaking real bad and convulsing.. I think heat stroke, or poison....

Tell em to get water and peroxide to check belly and look the dog over for markings before they did anything. this was 40 minutes ago... 930pm now as I type. When they went outside the dog went complete nuts.. Shaking and jumping and ramming her head against walls, the ground, the porch, anything she could find while letting out high pitch screams.. I told em to back up and not approach the dog and to get their other dogs to safety if possible..

They hear thrashing and screaming for about 30 more seconds and then nothing.. the dog ran between the shed and the trailer behind old farm equipments and boards. No movement and can't tell if its alive or dead.. They are outside looking for it now but almost certainly is dead.. I am thinking about driving down now but its several hours away.

What are the chances this is rabies? I know it isn't likely but that is in the back of my mind and the only thing I really care about it not being.... They have two other beagles who have never been vaccinated as far as I know.. I know the pup is wormed ivomeced and frontlined.. No neurologic problems in sire or darn.. This pup is not started and is not fenced in but stays close to the house all day..

Can a heat stroke, snake bite, slipped disc, maybe drugs meth or something? anything cause this??? I don't want to over react or anything but should they call conservation and have it checked out if they find it? I have never heard of anything like it. I am on the phone with them now. If I end up making the drive I will let you know what I find out. Thanks!

I have seen dogs with severe low sugar issues act very strange, crazy at times. Running scared and such.

This sounds more extreme and rabies would be a good guess. Be careful cause if he bites someone they will be in BIG trouble!!!

Rabies can come on quick and the phase of aggression is short then they die.

Good luck!!

Well, the dog made it through the night but is still acting insane.. They are gonna try to catch it and bring it to the vet.

no, As of this morning it was running away from them still uncontrollably shaking. Haven't heard from them all day.. If it was low sugar you would figure that it would be resolved or the dog would be dead.

This is the friendliest dog you could imagine. It loves people and runs up to everyone. I am tryin to figure it out now and I will post when they figure out whats wrong with it. I am still thinking stroke or aneurism..

I'd say it was a bad seizure.

So I drive down to my fiance's house to drop somethings off and just for the heck of it, I went searching for the dog and found it alive. It took off like a bat out of hell but it was still staggering around. Once I caught up to it I was kind of afraid of it but once she recognized me, it was like she was begging for help..

I slowly had it walk towards me while I went to the house and I got some hotdogs for it and some water. Had real trouble eating the hotdogs but ate three of em and kinda dumped her face in the water and lapped it up ok.

her legs are giving out under her and she honestly looks and acts retarded for lack of a propper name... her legs are super stiff and then she just goes limp one second to the next... Gums look healthy, no severe weight loss, eyes look fine, stool looked ok, but I did see several ticks but that is no surprising spending a few days in the woods....

She doesn't seem to know how to bark anymore and is now being super friendly... I should have grabbed the dog to take to the vet myself but she honestly did not look like she was in pain just shaking and being weird. I am going to put her down this week if she is not getting better. It is locked up in a large kennel so it can't run and they can monitor it and keep it away from animals..

I can't fathom whats wrong,. Never in my whole life have I seen somehting like this.. Its the weirdest thing ever. Doesn't seem like rabies but i'm still kinda crapping my pants. Especially since I touched it.. If I have to put it down, or she dies, I will have them test it immeadiatly.

ya I call BS on that to, either put it down or take it to the vet. cant stand people who let hounds suffer cause they don't have the stones to do whats right.

I agree if you caught the dog take it to the vet or put it down no need for it to suffer any longer
