My wife and I are new to this field trialing stuff but we were told to make sure our pup comes in when the trial is over. We have whistle trained him to come across the county if need be for a piece of cheese. My question is , are we hurting him???? HE LOVES THE STUFF!!!!!

I wouldn't think an occasional piece of cheese would hurt your dog. As long as it is a treat and not a staple. You could start to wean it from the cheese, every other time give a reward. Then when that is ok with the dog, then every third time.....
Cheese is kind of like beer, I haven't seen a dog yet that wouldn't gobble it up. Those people from WIS must have figured that out a long time ago...

Thanks for the reply Emery. We only use it for calling in out in the woods. Also its the small cubes you get in those packages at the grocery store, I don't think it would be a whole slice either. I live down here in Ga, man its been to hot to train much the last few weeks!!!!! My wifes a little scared of the night training thing with our rattle snakes down here. Can a beagle take a hit from a timber rattler?????? Well thanks again...

WOW!!!!!!
Ok, Kings Way, you've got all my attention!!!!!! Am I screwing up here??? Our running season would not be to long if we waited for the cold weather. I've seen rattlers in late Nov. at our deer hunting camp. Is it not safe to run now?? The local Vets in the Powder Springs Ga area tell me that dogs do better than we think with snakebites, they don't use antivenom either. My Vet told me the infection from the mouth of a snake is worse than the venom itself. What do all you guys do from the South???
Thanks in advance,
