Patch hound Info
I know that patch hounds are lemon and white and that they were started by Willet Randall, but what speed do they run, and how is there hunt and line control? I`ve had and seen a lot of different beagles run but have not had any experience with patch hounds. What are their strengths and weaknesses if any? I might want to try one sometime!

John,
Patch hounds are not just lemon and white. Over the years I have seen many different colors. Also speed can range from medium to extremely fast. Control can be good to wild and cut every chance it gets. If you let me know what you are looking for I should help by pointing you in the right direction. I know several patch breeders across the nation. At this time all of my pups have been spoken for this year, therefore I am not trying to sell you a pup but just trying to help in your search.

The first Patches were open marked Tri-Colors.Mostly white with some
Black&brown spots here and there. Most people assume the Lemon&White
thing. The trend seems to lean more to the lemon&white these days but
color truly does not make the dog. These hounds can come about any color. Open marked,Lemon&White,Liver&white,Fawn or Tan&White,Black&White,Saddle back Tri-Color.

My advice is to buy your hounds from those who breed & select for the country & the game you hunt. I have seen those, who for my taste make hare hounds and others who's breeding were better suited for cottontails, most can do a fair job at either but there are some qualities that are a great advantage to one while in the other may be frowned upon.
Best of luck...Patch

Mike,
My personal preferance is somewhere between what I call medium and fast with endurance that isn`t a wide swinger, therefore that is what I try to breed for. Please remember what I call fast may not what be what you call fast. Several indviduals I have ran dogs with call mine fast but I have ran with others that are faster.
