Private Farm Rabbit Hunt - 18 Rabbits on the tailgate

Post by Joeyman »

what an awesome hunt. We hunted this farm exactly one year ago to the day. I was invited back to the propety to guide the pack again for another fun filled day. We had close to 300ac to play on for the day. More ground than a person cares to cover. The thickets and draws were surrounded by corn fields which is always a great source of food for the rabbits. Landowner is a polite and friendly older fella. He has a few spots closer to his house that is OFF limits to rabbit hunting to keep the rabbits safe and making sure we have some left for next season. Mainly around a couple ponds that are closer to the house and a thick wood draw towards the rear of the house. Heck when we pulled out of the drive way we saw a rabbit sitting out front about 10ft from the front door to his house...lol the thought crossed my mind to drop the tailgate for one more race....lol

Hope you guys enjoy the Pics and Video. I got plenty of good footage on film including 3 different rabbit retrieves.

Nice work again Joey !
Man you sure do live in rabbit heaven and as far as those retrieves if you dont beat my dogs to the rabbit you might as well forget about it cause its history.
Back when I had only one dog she would retrieve but that was years ago. Do you have any males that do this or just the bitches?

no we don't have any males that retrieve. The main dog that does this is my leah dog. And she'd do it more often if the other dogs would just leave her alone. Sometimes they gang up on the rabbit and we have to hurry up and get it before they play tug o war with it. Sometimes my little daisy dog will guard the rabbit and not let a single dog near it. I have plenty video of her doing that. that helps us so the rabbit doesn't get destroyed. mainly happens on wounded rabbits. she'll gaurd it like its her baby or something...lol
