what is a dog worth

I have a 4 year old female that Im goin to sell to a friend and dont know what is a fair price.She is a well bred progressive pack style dog that is collar broke needs only to be called or toned,never ran trash,hunts good but not a great jump dog.She can run a rabbit all day long and doesnt create checks, about a 6 solid speed but slower than my other five.She works a good check and gets more than her share.The only reason im selling he is she isnt fast enough for my pack and sometimes pulls the pack back when they are in a check,and she is a little snippy with a strange dog or pups,will fight at the drop of a hat if bothered by another dog,and hates to have her toenails cut.Just wanted some input on what would be a fair price to ask for her.

Unless your friend is going to hunt this dog by itself, you might have a problem figuring out what she is worth. She is worth what the friend is willing to pay. I wouldnt have if you gave it away. Thanks for your honesty. Good luck.

Of course, Dave is correct but her age is against her but not too bad, you sound like she is not making you happy and, she is "snippy" which is a big no-no for me. So If I was pricing her, it would be real cheap, perhaps $100 or I would, as Dave suggests, give her to a friend on the condition that he does not hunt her with you.

Thanks guys, yes she is akc and I forgot to tell you my friend hunted with her the past 3 years in the U P and likes her.After posting I was thinking about $200.00 what I paid as a pup. Al

Her age is against her? At 4 years old I'd hardly say that, if it was me and the guy was a good friend id let him have her, selling to somebody random I'd say 250-300

PA: Man is asking for an opinion. The way I read it, she is already 4 so she is coming on 5 years old. To me, given the other characteristics given, that is a negative. I agree with your other assessments but I wouldn't never sell a "snippy" dog to anyone.

It would depend on how snippy and where in the field in the kennel the dog box and as for the age some would say she is in her prime shes not a young dog but she isnt old eaither ive seen alot of snippy dogs in the kennel but in the field wouldnt be for me But judgeing on the for sale page I would guessamate 200 if shes not snippy in the field i take snippy as not being right down mean But i never have liked pricing another mans dog without seeing it in action JMHO

If your buddy has hunted with her the last 3 years he knows the good and bad of her just like you do. It sounds like he thinks the dog can help him.You suggested $200 which to me is more than fair. Pups go for that and more.You have what sounds like a finished dog. Her age for me is just right.I just gun hunt and pack run.A 4 year old is right in her prime.I also have a female that is ill with othe dogs.I tolerate it because she is the best dog I have.She is a 5 year old grade dog.Good luck with the sale...

Thanks for the input ,she turns 4 july 28th.When I say snippy I mean she will not put up with a dog jumping on her or being mauled,i have had her kenneled with alot of differant dogs with no problems,she just wont put up with alot of nonsence.I spoke to my buddy last night and asked him what he thought she is worth and he said $400.00 and I told him he could have her for $200.00 which he was very happy with.We live 6.5 hours away pa to mi so she will be making the trip to the U P in oct.Its nice to get feedback and other opinions.The guy buying it is in the arha progressive pack hall of fame so he has seen a few dogs in his day,this dog is not a cull just doesnt fit in with my pack and the toenail cutting bothers me,might seem like a small thing but its a pain in the rump.

Down here they are cheap and a pretty good dog goes for $100.00 or less. One I knew was way above average sold for $250.00 and that was high but worth it. Folks would like them, but times are hard. Far more selling than buying unless they are buying to resale to make a buck.

I doubt you female here would bring $50-75.00 today.

i think what you paid for her is a fair price. im sure you have money in training and other misc. also if he dont mind her faults you are good to go. even better is to let him take her for 2 weeks money in your hand and try her.

Good point Alabama. Like that in Michigan too. Dogs are selling cheap and people expect a very good one when they buy one. Pineridge did a good and fair thing.
