Missouri Youth Rabbit hunt a Success!!!

Post by Joeyman »

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who helped me put this Youth Rabbit hunt on for the kids. I've had this hunt planned since summer time. It took some work to make it happen. Also thanks to my hunting buddy Brad (rabbitruner) for helping me guide. Without everyone who was involved I would of never been able to do it. Thanks to everyone involved. This has been one of the most enjoyable hunts I've been on in awhile.

To see the look on the youth's face's when they took their rabbit was just amazing. Their were several of the youths in my group that were able to take their first ever rabbit also first time watching a pack of beagles work.

We ended up with 7 youths and 8 guides with 7 dogs. We split everyone up into 3 groups. I brought 6 dogs with me. Brad took one group of hunters with 3 dogs. I took one group with 3 dogs and the third group had one dog that a man by the name of Danny owned. Nice male that was 13yrs old. Old man got it done his group took the most rabbits of the day with 6 rabbit harvested.

I was trying hard to get 10yr old little andrew his first rabbit, His uncle and I took him under our wing set him up in several spots of a shot. Took us a bit but we finally got him his first rabbit and a giant rabbit it was. Almost as big as him. He put a headshot on that bunny with is single shot 20ga. his uncle told me that he has never been successful on a hunt yet. Been deer hunting with no luck. This was his first successful hunt. On the way home he called his dad, Grandpa, and aunt and told them all about getting his first rabbit. I've captured the moment on video so check it out!

Hunting, the outdoors, and a pack of dogs make a kid feel like an adult and an old man feel like a kid. Andrew was grinning like a mule eating saw briers. Great job guys.
