spo trial dog questions
hello ladies and gents! what are some of the good qualities a spo type of dog possess? i believe i want to trial and my dogs peds possess quality dogs from trialing lines. not for the sake of competing, but just to meet people who share a passion of hounds and fun running.i hear the pro's and con's of trialing, but ultimately i just love to see and hear hounds pounding bunnies.can anyone let me know what i have to do to become eligible to run in liscened trials? i live in north west ohio and any info would be appreciated, thanks, carl

Re: spo trial dog questions
First thing you need to do is find out what kind of spo you run, for instance the spo midwest run a true run to catch hound where as just spo run a more conservative hound that is quite slower for instance if you have branko dogs then more than likey you would be midwest but if you have shorts pro breeding then you would be what they call ubgf or just spo!!
after you figure out what style then all you have to do is have akc registered beagles and belong to a club of the style of hound you run and then that will make you eligible to run in the hunts also you have to belong to a club for your placing or winning points to count towards hound of the year!!
Anyone correct me if im wrong on any of this!! But im pretty sure after that you just need to show up at the hunts and have some fun!!
Hope this helps!!

You don't even have to be a member of a club to enter your dog, but it must be AKC registered & you do have to be a member of a Mid-West club before your hound gets Mid-West points & become eligible to run in the runoff. There are 19 clubs in the Mid-west Association & may soon be 3 more. Ckeck out www.mid-west-gundog.com

Re: spo trial dog questions
I meant to edit my post greg cause that was the one thing I didn't know for sure on was if you had to belong to a club to be able to run!! Just forgot to do it before I posted but thanks for clearing that up and helping me out on that!!

Here in New York our spo is steppy. You need a dog with good speed but your hound must be close and clean. Also you don't need to belong to any club at all. Your dogs must be AKC registered. Find out what type dogs run in your area, go watch and see if your dogs would fit in and then you know what you have..Good luck...Deerhost.
