Too close for me; I would worry about health problems, but I've never tried it either. Maybe someone on here can give you actual results if they have crossed that way before.

Re: What do you think about this breeding?
is very close but if you look at fc absier's levee road june, his mother is a result of a daughter bred back to father, im pretty sure, what this cross would be doing for your kennel, is multiplying the blood for generations to come, this breeding would result in more long term succes with generations to come, more than likely the pups should and would be able to reproduce very well in the years to come. so if you are wanting to keep rosie's blood tight and up close for the future and again you can cull hard then i say breedem.

Re: What do you think about this breeding?
Well, my friend had a "mistake" breeding, father to daughter. Only three pups, all females. Two started, both late starters, one I kept I just couldn't get her to start. Two of these females are VERY agressive dogs. No agressiveness in their background. Except for a stud dog and some of those are agreessive because they are studs. I think the close breeding caused some of these bad traits. I sold my bitch as a pet and is working out just fine. All this is from one experience and could be different elsewhere. Guess I wouldn't breed that close and definatley never littermate crosses. JMHO

Re: What do you think about this breeding?
I will throw my 2 cents in here:
If you are breeding for confirmation (color, size, etc..) INBREEDING can bring you good results. You will always have a higher risk of bite problems, health issues, etc..when ever you line or in breed...everyone should know that this is a given and the word CULL hard is always there with both. If you are breeding for abilities such as speed, nose, brains, etc...I would NEVER INBREED. I would line breed your female! Find another male thats close to yours and go for it, and then breed that off spring back to the son later on down the road. You have a great foundation with mother and son for your kennel, so use them the right way and the results will be rewarding.
Practice what you preach:
I'm takin a Jeep female and breeding her here soon if everything works out...a female out of that litter will be bred back to Jeep. Grandfather x Granddaughter cross. Thats line breeding. You will never see me INBREED anything. I have seen to many stupid dogs out there to bring in a few more.
Inbreeding:
father/daughter
mother/son
full brother/full sister
line breeding:
uncle/ neice
grandfather/grandaughter
half brother/half sister
anything top and bottom
Good luck

To close for me not sure the breed needs it out there.
Re: What do you think about this breeding?
i cannot beleave all of the ignorant people that have now idea about inbreeding or line breeding. the people who are against need to do some genetic research so when you comment on it you don't sound like a complete idiot. by the way go for it but you better like the mother.

Re: What do you think about this breeding?
Guess its all in what u expect to recieve, I have bred Father to Daughter on occasions, but never a son to a mother. I think most the people that talk about how stupid and gross it is have never done it and or dont understand it. If you look at it on paper not only does it compliment certain crosses, but it will lock in traits that you need or have bred to achieve. Granted i also believe most should not do it, thats fine as pie with me, but do not condon those that do. As always the results of the super breeders can be found time and time again on upcoming litters and adults for sale. I also think about 30% of people breeding have a clue.I have split a gut watching pedigrees on here ...............................

Re: What do you think about this breeding?
This is just my view on it and nothing more but if you have to ask, then you probably have not done enough homework to even know why it is or isn't done. Those giving a direct answer on here as to whether you should or should not do this, clearly do not have enough information to even answer and yet they do answer. I have to come to the conclusion that those who have given a direct answer of yes or no do not know all the variables involved to come to a conclusion on a breeding or they have chosen to ignore all variables other than the relationship of the breeding pair. I am disappointed to see how lightly people take a decision like this even though some of those responding have been successful breeders.
A breeding like this is not for the faint of heart nor for the inexperienced uneducated breeder. With the information given there is no way I could answer this question and don't see how others can either, maybe they know more about the lines involved and have the history in front of them. Without that, how do you begin to know what the results could be?

As always we agree to disagree----I have not made a cross that has me as the breeder unless it was fully researched, thru and thru.As always Few things are harder to put up with as a annoyance of a good example.Tim H wrote:This is just my view on it and nothing more but if you have to ask, then you probably have not done enough homework to even know why it is or isn't done. Re: What do you think about this breeding?
For the offspring to be born with problems or undesirable traits
they have to be present in the sire and dam, and can come out
at anytime from out crossing, line breeding, or inbreeding requiring heavy culling with the latter two.
Inbreeding/line breeding just make it easier for the good as well as the bad traits to surface, because the gene pool is much tighter.
This type of breeding is not for the inexperienced, and as much as
possible should be known about the parents and their ancestors.
