Puppy Mange ??

Post by matt c »

I just took my 11 week old pup today to the vet, with what I thought was a flea problem. It turned out to be puppy mange..

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it turned out???

I have had pups develope a skin problem and the vet referred to it as "puppy pyoderma". Crusty spots that get kind of scaly, red and will weep some pus at times.A week on Amoxycillan and they clear right up.Don't know if that's what you're dealing with or not.

if it is genetic mange, it can only be masked at best. It is a imune problem and will cost some bucks. If you bought that pup, take it back now and get your money back if that is the type it has. If not it will haunt you!!! and future generations of pups from that dog!

Rick G, You maybe refering to Red Mange that is genetic. Scoptic (sp) mange is very treatable. I have pups that catch what I call brooder fungas and that looks like mange. Pups loose their hair in spots & is treatable wt Lym Dip that you can get from the Vet.

Good Luck wt the Pup,

Ron
