Plaque Build Up

I have a few older dogs and their teeth are starting to look bad, with alot of plaque build up. Any cost effective suggestions??? Thanks in advance..

THE COW HOOFS THAT YOU BUY IN THE PET STORE WILL CLEAN THEM UP. IF THEY WILL NOT CHEW, SOAK THEN IN SOME BEEF OR CHICKEN BULLION FOR A DAY OR TWO.

Have you tried flaking it off? It normally pops off like "hard candy" when hooked and pulled aways from the gumline with a dental pick or similar tool. My vet can flake it off with his thumbnail but he has tougher thumbnails than I do. Of course, it take a few times for most beagles to get used to you messing with their teeth. I have one that LIKES me to clean his teeth (as long as I do not pinch his gums). I think he just like the attentio!
